Green Book Rotations?

I was researching the acgme listings of approved residencies at each of the US hospitals listed on the SMU website that are affliated hospitals. None of them had an ACGME approved rotation in psych or peds. I was just wondering if this is because we don't have to do an ACGME approved rotation in those specialties or if we should plan on going to England or Ireland for those specialties?

This is not meant to scare anyone, because my research could be wrong. Nor is this meant to be a SMU bashing, because I hope to attend SMU and have faith in their future. I was just wondering if a school official could respond. If I am wrong, which sites in the US have green book approved psych and ped rotations?

thanks!

hmm

Well the NYC hospitals are
Wycoff Heights
St. Johns
St. Barnabas
Penninsula

None of them seem to be ACGME accredited for OB/GYN either? Are we missing something JP?

Due to realignment of clinical centers, our current green peds and psych rotations are AOA (DO) rotations in NYC. Green ACGME Peds will be added at a new site in NYC this summer.

This is all part of the goal of moving to the 3 or 4 large clinical centers discussed earlier.

JP,

speaking of Green, where/how does Orlando (i.e. Florida Hospital) fit into the clinical scheme of things. I've heard rumors (not Green), but that's about it. Can you shed some light on the present situation as well as future prospects in the area. Thanks.

No, Florida Hospital is only green for FP. I don't know what role it will play in future clinical rotations, but I have not heard of any plans to get rid of the site altogether.

JP, will you please provide any available information about the proposed "clinical centers"? Thanx!

Please enlighten me: what does only green FP mean? Do all cores need to be green to be most marketable? Moreover, is it not wise to go entirely green?

its another of those state specific things....some states need a green acgme residency program in each area for your rotatiosn to count while others consider a site "green" if they have a residency in family practice and the others are umbrella. at least that was my understanding two years ago but since we were told by the school, auc, to only do them at green residency sites i haven't looked at the specifics in a while....

FP = Family Practice, yes.

In a few states, international medical grads are required to have completed all of their core (3rd year) rotations at hospitals that have an accredited residency program in that specialty (ACGME or AOA). There are others (I believe three) that will not accept AOA rotations for an MD license (Nevada is one, off the top of my head).

Florida does not have any such requirements. Florida Hospital does all of their medical student training under the umbrella of their Famly Practice program.

So, to have the best available number of states, you should do all green ACGME rotations. Which is why the clinical realignment is so important. Until this summer, when NYC is complete, in order to do all ACGME green in one city without moving, you'd have to go to the U.K. (Which I still think is great idea for a variety of reasons).

As far as the FL rotations go, I am not sure of their future. But failing all else, you could still do all of your electives (4th year) in FL if you so chose.
