Memo From Dr Harris on Graduation and housing

MEMORANDUM

To: All Faculty and students returning to Grand Cayman
From: Michael A. Harris MD, President
Subject: Facilities and event updates, housing policies

Both the University Campus at Leeward 3 and the Residence Hall are on schedule for completion April 1st, 2005.

Graduation will be held on Saturday April 30th, 2005 10am in the Governors Ballroom, the Westin Casuarinas Resort, Grand Cayman.

Orientation for new incoming students will be held on Campus, Leeward 3 Monday May 2nd. All classes start Wednesday, May 4th, 2005 on Grand Cayman.

All new incoming students must have made their Residence Hall deposit no later than the end of business day Friday, April 8th, 2005 in order to be guaranteed housing at the Residence Hall. All future 3rd semester students who are enrolled in the St. Joseph's program, who wish to be considered for housing at the Residence Hall, must so notify by e-mail Adriana Marin-Negron (amarin@smucayman.com) in the Oviedo office by April 1st. You will be notified of your acceptance into the Residence Hall on Monday April 11th. If you accept the room at this time, your account will be billed a non-refundable amount equal to the entire semester's room rate. It is anticipated that there will be room for 70 to 80 of the future 3rd semester class enrolled in the St. Joseph's program at the Residence Hall. If the demand is greater than the number of rooms, selection will be random.

All remaining future 2nd and 3rd semester students who wish to be considered for housing at the Residence Hall should so notify Adriana by April 1st, 2005. You will be notified of your acceptance on April 13th. If you accept the room at this time, your account will be billed a non-refundable amount equal to the entire semester's room rate.

St. Matthew's has identified over 100 committed off-campus housing units that can be reserved immediately by faculty or students. These units are contained in Treasure Island, Spanish Bay Reef and Sunshine Suites. A description of these units, the price and the amount of the deposit will be shortly forthcoming These units will be assigned on a first come first serve basis and will require cash payments up front to the facility contact in amounts required by the facilities themselves. Payment must be made by either wire transfer, money order or credit card. The minimum accepted length of commitment is one semester.

Sebastien Guilbard, Housing Director, will send weekly emails to faculty and students as other units on the island are advertised to the general public These units will be available strictly on a contractual basis between faculty/students and the landlord.

As a service to faculty and student, to aid in the relocation process, all faculty and future 2nd and 3rd semester students who are not accepted for Residence Hall housing or the off-campus housing at Treasure Island, Spanish Bay Reef or Sunshine Suites will be allowed to stay at the Residence Hall free of charge for 10 days while searching for housing. Earliest check-in will be April 17th; latest check out will be noon on April 27th. To reserve a room that is subject to availability, notify Sebastien Guilbard at sguilbard@smu.ky.
You must bring your own linens and toiletry items. All policies of the Residence Hall must be adhered to, a copy of which will be made available to interested parties.

few addings to memo

I need to add few things.
The pricing and reservation contact for the other hotels will be coming soon to your mailboxes.
All reservations to these off site housing will be done directly from the student to the concerned facility.
SMU will not handle your reservation if you want to stay at the Treasure Island, The sunshine Suites or the Spanish Bay resort.therefore, there is not need to contact the Oviedo Office or myself for this purpose.

Thank you for your usual understanding and cooperation
