Licensing and Greenbook Rotations

Just thought I'd share a bit of info that I got a hold of today with all my fellow valuemd users. If the state you want to get licensed in requires all core rotations to be greenbook beware that right now SMU only as one provisional (which means it's not fully accredited yet...there next review is on March 9, 2005) peds rotation at St. Barnabas in NY and one other but it's osteopathic. Hopefully this doesn't hurt everyone out there, but for all you Virginians or other states that need all green core rotations..... unfortunately this just isn't acceptable according to state law.....just thought you'd like to know.

On the flip side if you don't mind waiting the director of the rotations department said they are currently working on this....he told me to keep in touch and to get back with him next month. He is suppose to be taking a trip I believe month to more hospitals. I will keep everyone posted. Unfortunately for me SMU is out of the running....for now. Good luck to everyone!!!

....

Just to clarify, that's only in NY. We have green Allo peds in Saginaw, WV, and of course UK and Ireland I know right off the top of my head. It is the rotation that has the highest priority for development.

clinical rotations

That's incorrect. Did you speak to the director of clinical rotations?? I don't want to name his name but you should know who he is.....go to the acgme website.
http://www.acgme.org/adspublic/
There is no accredited peds program for that hospital and yes I was only speaking for rotations in the U.S. It's Saginaw, MI not WV. I have looked everyone up on the list.....look, this just isn't something I'm pulling out of my butt. After I realized this I called the director of clinical rotations for the school and he totally confirmed what I posted above.....so please tell me your source. Did you speak to him? I will be happy to call him right back up today. I'm sure if there was an accredited peds program at the school right now the director of rotations would know, furthermore I'm sure if one existed he'd want me to know.....since he knew this is what the deciding factor in my attending at this time was based on (due to VA state laws). I just want everyone to have the most current up to date information.
Don't take my word for it....anyone out there in doubt....call him. You can look every single one up on the acgme.org website. The site tells you which ones are accredited and which ones are not. You are right about one thing, "it is the rotation that has the highest priority of development," but as the director told me there is only so much they can do.......and yes they are constantly working on it but it doesn't change what they have at the moment. Please just inform yourselves.

...

Well, first, the Director of Clinical Rotations is a she, not a he.

The Director of Clinical Development is a he.

I spoke to the Director of Clinical Rotations this morning, before posting. And, yes, I was referring to Saginaw and WV seperately, not saying Saginaw was in WV.

peds rotation

You are right the director of clinical development is a he that's what I meant, hence that's why I was saying he.....but I spoke to the director of clinical rotations prior. It was she who referred me to the director of clinical development and yes she thought the same thing.... that there was an accredited peds rotation until I told her it wasn't listed on the acgme website. After that she got me in touch with the developer because he is the one creating or getting rid of current rotations and he confirmed my fear.....at this time they are working on it but there is not an accredited peds rotation.

He told me to keep in touch....for he couldn't promise they would have one arranged in time for the class starting in May. Unfortunately they come and go....he said they're phasing some out and trying to get others as we speak. This just happens to be the current status at this time.
