Legal action in Texas

I was wondering if SMU has or plans on taking legal action towards the state of Texas in regards of granting licenses to their students. SGU and Ross are working very hard at attaining approval from Texas, and I believe that our school should do the same. I think this is the best time to join the fight against Texas. 3 schools vs. Texas board would be a good fight. JP or anyone with information on this topic, please reply.

hmmm

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think maybe you have the wrong idea abou SGU and Ross's dealings with Texas.

To, me, everything looks like SGU and Ross are talking to the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners in a cordial manner, with hat-in-hand asking for Texas to approve them. Is anybody actually suing anyone? If they are, that's news to me.

I think if those older schools aren't being all that aggressive, then SMU doesn't have much of a chance. I don't think anybody has Texas over a barrel or anything....the TSBME does pretty well what it darn well pleases considering the nearly carte blanc laws they have in place regarding who they can deny licensure.

Anyways, that's just my perspective.
I hope qualified schools like SMU, Ross, SGU, and Saba can get Texas to recognize them.

Texas

Hello all,

Does anyone know how far Ross and SGU have gotten in terms of Texas? Last I heard, Texas was supposed to have held a meeting this month in terms of approval/disapproval for Ross.

Ross has been telling prospective students to not worry about Texas, because by the time they are done, the school will have Texas by then. I'm not sure if that is true, but that was supposedly what the Dean of clinical sciences at Ross is saying.

I hope that SMU will get Texas to recognize them by 2008, because I am actually from there, and would really like to practice in Texas when I am through.

On SMU's residency match list, I've noticed that many students have gotten residencies all over Texas. I wonder if this was done in part to help secure a better chance at getting Texas licensure on an individual basis. JP has told me the worst case scenario would be for me to have to appeal the Texas board. I'm not sure how that works, but it sounds stressful.

Anyway, hopefully when SMU gets California approved, perhaps Texas will follow suit.

In the mean time, we can only wait and wish for the best....
