AUC v. SMU: Clinical rotations or sites

First, I just want to say that I hope everyone is safe in the Cayman Islands and hopefully the school will resume without any problems.

I'm applying for the Jan 05 term, and I was just wondering if anyone knows about the clinical site situation at both schools. That is, how difficult/easy it is to secure a rotation at the site of your choice....

The reason I ask is because I've been following the AUC forum on here and it seems that class size keeps increasing, while the number of US clinical sites have either remained the same or decreased (I dont know, Im just guessing about the latter). The impression I get is that students are being encouraged to enroll in rotations in the UK/Europe. Since I have no intention of praciticing or living in Europe, and because I would miss out on the opportunity to network with people in the US, this trend of shipping students off to Europe is disconcerting.

Now, I'm considering St. Matthews....but I havent really heard too much about any difficulties/issues with clinical rotations. Either ppl are happy or they just havent complained. Its hard to say. Does anyone "in the know" have any insight on the matter? Were you at St. Matthews able to select and rotate at the sites of your choice?

Unrelated question: I would like to do anesthesiology, and do u guys think it would be easier to get into that residency by going to Ross, AUC, or SMU? Or maybe it shouldnt make a difference as long as I apply myself...

Thanks for all your help....

I'm no rossie or AUC student, but how's this for an argument:

"There is no attrition or 'weeding out' of students at our school, and anyway, those who fail are dumb and deserved it (or didn't work hard enough), and didn't desrve to be physicians anyway. Schools don't fail students, students fail themselves! No one goes to U.K. or Europe if they worked hard enough, and anyway, even if they did it was their choice because their are plenty of clinical spots anyway and besides it's not such a bad thing. Though lots of students are accepted more and more each semester, there are plenty of spots, so shut up!"

Is that an AUC quote?

wolvgang,

is that an AUC forum quote.......I dont think Ross students go to Europe....
SGU doesnt have a serious attrition problem, from what I understand....Process of elimination: AUC quote?

Anyone?

I'm not in clinicals(at AUC) yet but I've always wondered what the clinical sites are at SMU.
Anybody have a list?

(and no, I'm not thinking about transferring if that's what you're wondering)
