    Dual Degree Program

Can anyone tell me the difference between a Master's in Health Care Administration and a Master's in Health Service Administration (the one St. Joseph's offers). Also what are the benefits in doing a Master's in Health Service Administration? I will most probably be coming to St. Mathew's and I am interested in doing the dual degree so any help kind of help will be useful! . Thanks.

    dual program

I also had a couple of questions about the dual program. In earlier posts it seemed that people complained about how it was a waste and that it took too much time away from studying for the basic sciences. Are there any grads or people currently doing the program that can share their views?

These degrees are unfortunately from a school that is new and will be questioned (even more than the MD degrees from offshore schools). Until they have some grads out in the marketplace I wouldn't waste the money on it..they are like a diploma mill degree......considered wall paper decoration.

    SJC

The St. Joseph's Master's of Science in Health Services Administration already has many graduates. There are quite a few graduates of the dual program as well, but of course they are mostly still in residency, so I don't have the dual program results yet.

I wouldn't exactly say St. Joseph's College is new...

"Private, Catholic, primarily residential, coeducational liberal arts college founded in 1912 by the Sisters of Mercy."

or that in fact it is a diploma mill.

"Saint Joseph's College is an accredited liberal arts college with a residential campus in southern Maine. The private, four-year school offers more than 30 academic programs."

I think you should do some research before hit that REPLY icon. . Just a thought.

Thought it was not a long established masters...let me study it and yes, you are right...don't shoot from the hip on something important like this. I'll be back with apologies if my memory is wrong.

    MHSA

    Program at St. Josephs

    http://www.sjcme.edu/gpsnew/prospect...l2=5&l3=3&l4=0

If we are talking about this program, is it accredited? it is a distance education masters. I don't know this particular masters degree but many of these programs are offered by schools like University of Phoenix, etc.
How will it play against a program by a major state university or a name school? Is it as economical as those offered by other schools?

I shall ask on the Distance Learning Forum

    MD/MHSA

    azskeptic,
you make valid points, but i think that you are failing to realize that St Joe's isnt U of Phoenix...its a fully accredited undergrad college (i am not 100% sure of the Univ of Phoenix's status...i am not saying they are unaccredited). getting a degree from them is like getting a degree from Penn State. also the MHSA isnt a distance program, its a actual classroom setting program, we are taught by professors from St Joe's.
I think that the big issue is whether if we go to Maine we will run into licensing problems because we finished our last two yrs outside of Cayman...and i guess that is something that you will have to talk to the licensing boards of the specific state in which you plan to practice. i know that to play it safe i plan to put the MHSA classes on hold 4th and 5th semesters and instead use the free time to focus on step1...
