Immigration
Someone sent this info to me and I thought you could use it:
Quote:
First of all, everyone arriving (except minor children) need a
passport, period, no way around it. When someone arrives here for a
short period of time, such as for vacation, immigration requires you
to have a return ticket to your country of origin. Once you get
your passport stamped with a student visa, you are no longer required
to have a return ticket. Absolutely make sure that your immigration
forms are completed and sent return receipt requested to the Florida
office no later than 30 days prior to you arriving on the
island. You'll be in big trouble if you don't do this promptly.
Download, complete and mail in immigration forms, be sure to keep a
copy for yourself. A complete immigration file includes: Cayman
islands immigration application, local police report, medical
documentation and two passport photos (one profile).
If you are married, enclose a copy of your marriage certificate. You
will be responsible for paying $200 CI ($250 USD) per person for a
student visa after classes start. This money goes to the Cayman
Islands Government. There is an additional $50 CI ($62.50 USD) to
file the application.
For example, a student and their spouse would pay (in US Dollars):
$250 for student + $250 for spouse + $62.50 for application fee =
$562.50
The front desk at Cayman (Miss Nola) will take your passport down to
immigration and have it stamped. As for me, I took it myself. I paid
the total amount in the above example. Then lo and behold there was a
$62.50 charge on my SMU account for the application fee. I was told
after the fact that the school was paying this fee for us and
charging us later. At the time of this writing it has been 4 months
and I still do not have a refund from the Cayman Islands Government.
Don't make this mistake yourself!!! Give your passport(s) to Miss
Nola at the front desk with either cash or a local check for the
visas and let the school charge you later for the application fee.
