    SMU is approved in NY

I just checked my e-mail and found out this good news.

"Please see the attached document from Dr. Michael A. Harris, President, and visit the New York State Education Department website at http://www.op.nysed.gov/medforms.htm and scroll down about 1/3 of the page to see St. Matthew’s on the list of approved schools.

I know how important this is to many of you who have been eagerly anticipating clinical rotations and residencies in New York. I am very pleased that St. Matthew’s has successfully met the high standards set by the state of New York and can provide this opportunity for our students and graduates.

    Sincerely,

    Jerry W. Thornton, Ph.D.

    Vice President

St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine

    GoodDoc,

Any idea when California will be on list? Is Texas on list?

    CA

California's board is coming to visit this summer, with an approval decision expected at the end of the year. I've said this before, but it's really hard to type with your fingers crossed.

We have been working with the TX board, but as of right now, I wouldn't count on it.

    re:

Are the clinicals in NY open to all students who complete the basic sciences or is a certain mark required on the step 1 for the usmle?

    Thanks!

    Yes

As long as you have passed Step I, and there is an available slot, anyone may go to NY.

    Re: Approval

With NY down, the next state in line is CA!

    Dean of Students

CA is coming in the middle of June. We are presently preparing for their visit and are confident that we offer the quality education that they demand of medical school graduates to practice in their state. I am available to respond to questions relating to SMU, and as Dean of Students, am prepared to assist with questions you may have relating to student life and adjusting to life on Grand Cayman.

how come aua got approved so quickly, but smu didn't?

i think that this california approval thing is entirely pure discrimination. someone should just sue california in the court.
