Thought a thread should be started on current SMU students applying for the match. Hopefully we can share our experiences (# of interviews, interview experiences, and pre-match offers) with others so that they can have an idea of what to expect.

Two EM invitations for interview. One FM invitation for interview, one denial for FM interview. So far so good. Anyone else apply yet?

A few questions for Junito and others who are currently in the match process. How many programs did you apply to totally? When is the earliest that most programs respond and when is the latest they respond?

I applied to 12 IM, ~25 FM, 30+ EM. I did not want to apply to too many since I may be taking a prematch starting in January (my goal is to prematch...how likely?...well I am comfortable with the odds). I am in a situation where I have to start ASAP, and I don't feel comfortable starting in June-July if I can make it for Jan. The only prematch I would take are for my top 2 FM picks (I know EM does not prematch, if it does, very rare). I have a back up IM, that I have a sufficient connection to fall back on if all else fails.

I applied to 27 programs and submitted everything on Sept. 1st. Still awaiting CS & CK results.

3 Interview invites thus far

did you guys get your interview once everything was submitted or did you get interview invites with still some information missing (eg transcript, etc)

All of my documents were in except for my CS & CK, which I am still waiting on.

I have to far received 5 interviews in the specialities I have applied to: EM, IM, FP.
One rejection due to CA disapproval list consequences.


I won't list the names of the programs because that can cause a number of VMD observers who aren't neccessarily SMU or Carib grads to apply to the programs en masse and diminish our chances of desired Matching.
