So far I have a few interviews. Have been hearing from friends that it seems many programs have not been offering interviews yet.

One interesting development is that I noticed one program in CT that required applicants to graduate from a Cali approved school. Interesting that the Cali list is now being used by certain programs in states that do not use the Cali list.

The other part of this is obtaining a residency in whatever.. IF you complete one year of FM, IM or whatever you get, you could then apply for ER the next year. You have a year of experience, you may have better recommendation letters or by then, the ER PD in this hospital may know you and your work ethic. Yes, you may have to go back to PGY-1 in ER, but it is better than waiting a year, flipping burgers, which I bet doesn't help your CV.

A guy in my class at SMU, his dad is a ortho in Fl. His brother in finishing another Carib school. His brother wants neurosurg and he wants ortho. He was telling me about his uncle, who graduated and didn't get into the program he wanted. His brother (guy in my class, his dad) got him into a first year Peds program, which he did not want, but needed to work. He has now been doing Peds for 25 years and is glad he went into it. It wasn't what he wanted, at least he didn't think so, but he took what he could get and it worked out.

The point is.. you shoot for one thing and one thing only.. you will be a statistic.. the one that didn't get a residency. Get a back up, if you don't match what you want, take something else, take a step back and punt. Use that year to show you are worth the better program.

Last thing.. I know of a girl that went to one of the WORST Carib schools.. she didn't match b/c she wanted surg. She went to the UK, worked for year in a prelim program.. re-applied and MATCHED at John's Hopkins in cat. surg the next year.

Either way... Good luck everyone.. good luck Juni

I applied to a total of 60 programs, (FM, IM & EM combined). Didn't want to apply to more since I have a feeling that I may be taking a pre-match, and am aiming to start an off-cycle residency. I received less than 10 interviews prior to releasing my USMLE transcript (after passing Step 2 CK). Now that I released it I am receiving new interview offers at a rate of 1-2 per day! Good to hear your friend had 17 invites, statistically they are guaranteed to match into EM!

Don't know exactly how many, just encountered that one. I hope that is not a new trend, but it caught me off guard.

Do you think she would want to date a 30-something first year? I am always looking for a sugar momma and a connection to Johns Hopkins for ANY residency. Ha!
