Wikipedia ??

It's well known that many internet surfers use wikipedia as a reliable source for information. However it has come to my attention that SMU has been victimized by wikipedia "the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit".

I think it is in the best interest for the school administration to react promptly in regards to this slander.

Wikpedia is like valuemd, you have to use it with a grain or two of salt (actually, valuemd has more than a few grains of salt). It should not be used as a source, but rather a place for ideas.

no one uses wiki as a definitive source for this very reason. as for "slander", as a future doc i would be careful about jumping into litiganous language. The wiki editors tend to be responsible to issues concerning vandalism if there is any. just contact them.

slander is a word (along with a few other buzzwords we all know and love) that people love to throw out. unless accurately applied, they tend to reduce the credibility of the user, making them look histrionic. Real slander like real terroism is a horror. Used inaccurately, out of proportion to the issue, rhetorically or by would-be demagogues well that's a social ill in and of itself.

this is how the entry stands now for those wondering what is slanderous:

St Matthews University - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
St. Matthew's University (SMU) includes the School of Medicine and the School of Veterinary Medicine. The School of Medicine currently has 800 students, while the School of Veterinary medicine welcomed its charter class in the Fall of 2005.[citation needed]
St. Matthew's campus is located on Grand Cayman Island in the Caribbean Sea. The Cayman Islands are part of the British West Indies, so English is the national language.

[edit] Licensing

Clinical students of St. Matthew's School of Medicine have been approved by the Education Department of New York, are able to complete their clinical clerkships in this state.[2]
Graduates of St. Matthew's School of Medicine are currently not able to be licensed as physicians in the following states:
  • California: As a result of a site visit[3] done by the Medical Board of California, SMU was officially disapproved for both training and licensure on February 18, 2005. [4]
  • Indiana: States SMU is disapproved.[5]
  • Kansas: Requires a medical school to be in operation for at least 15 years, so SMU is not eligible.[6]

thats weird, someone must have just created that link, because i checked less than a week ago and there was NO SMU link for wiki.
I think once the school website is official finished, someone can work on making a nice wikipedia page.

And, at the risk of being a pedantic bore, slander is defamation by the spoken word or sign or gesture. The correct term is libel for the written word, including electronically disseminated matter.

Im afraid to say that many people do use wikipedia as a source. In many cases when you google something, wikipedia is usually the 2nd or 3rd result from a search engine.

Slander was probably the wrong word, however this wikipedia informations is not doing SMU (OUR medical school) any favours.

STEPHEW:-

You forgot to paste probably the most important part of that link
  • Texas: similarly placed SMU on their list of "Substandard or Fraudulent Institutions", and notes that attempting to use the degree to obtain a medical license is a Class B Misdemeanor in that state.[7]
