totally pathetic

yes, its totally pathetic, whether its using old exams that float around (which WAY more then 5-6 students in my sem used) or by using Adderall or Ritalin to study...man from my sem i am going to have to say a very very high number did one or two of those options regularly.

cheaters

I'm talking about the people that hold their exam up so the people behind them can read it, or the people next to them. With no assigned seating, this is rampant. Cheat sheets brought in, cell phones used for answers, or with photos of exams for the next semester, answers on large erasers, and more that are beyond my realm.

It wouldn't hurt to have a proctor for every 25 students.

The cheating problem could be remediated by having more proctors as previously stated. Having professors type up new exams every semester, and have the old exams available in the library. What is the big deal in keeping these old exams from being made public so students can utilize them (to gauge how well they are doing with their studies). Organize a computer lab for testing purposes and place video cameras so people will think twice about cheating. This is done with the testing centers that administer the USMLE exam.

Professors do not want to rewrite exams. Comming up with good questions that are USMLE standard is not easy, and most professors are lazy. That and also if old exams were made available, I would bet money, that after enough accumulated, that is ALL students would study.

SMU should do like SABA and have all exams taken on computers. That is USMLE simulation. and yes also mandate new exams written every semester.

If you ask me there is a lot of exaggeration going on here. The posts make it seem like most students cheat. It does no justice to those [absolute majority] who work their tails off and implicitly makes them look bad.

In any school, in any profession, in any occupation there will be cheaters.
And life goes on...

you taught me SO MUCH TODAY!

you have opened my EYES today! i am knowing all the techniques now, as i have NEVER ONCE CHEATED ALL MY LIFE w/ all the degrees that i have. as we say, we live and learn...

here i am hearing this from the first hand info. i am embarrased to know these are going to be future DOCS!!!!!

i am sure that you have more to share if you have no exams to be responsible for...right? what else? what other "skills"?

i hope that our authorities are reading your note to watch out for these "skills"...
