A 14M after studying hard every day? Few questions:
    1) How long and how many hours per day did you study?
    2) Judging by your post, and score, English is not your native language?
    3) Did you complete, and if so, how did you do in your prereqs?

My suggestion -- buy lottery tickets...you would have a better chance of hitting the jackpot than passing step 1 with that score.

Please do contact the admissions department at St. Matthews though, you may be eligible for a scholarship with that score.

    good luck

Dude if you can't offer someone some encouraging words, then don't say anything. You don't have to reply if you don't want to...you know that right.

HaHaHa..I love the occasional humor on VMD. Seriously though, many people can get higher than 14M without studying.

I would suggest you to think twice before applying to med school, especially if your GPA is on the low side.

    Good luck.

What a Jerk! Don't worry the MCAT isn't requiered for a reason. I just hope you did good on your pre reqs. There are schools in the US that don't have a low score cutt off. Meaning if your grades are high enoughf you could still get in. Howard University School of Medicine is one of them. They see the test as racially bias. Cheer up! Everything is up to you. If I had a dollar for every person who told me I couldn't do something....

Yes, its possible to pass Step 1, on your first attempt, even with a low MCAT score like what you had. It'll take an enormous amount of hard work to do it though. Maybe you'll find the medical sciences of the USMLE more interesting than the sciences/math of the MCAT.
I'll bet that the majority of Caribbean students got less than a 20 on the MCAT, and somehow roughly 65% of them eventually pass USMLE Step 1.
Work VERY hard and you'll do it.

The avg MCAT score at SGU is 24. They put you in AEP (Academic enhancement program) if your score is lower ~ 20% of all the students. Not sure about the entire Caribbean student population, but one thing is certained though...All the skills from taking the MCAT will help you in getting through med school, especially if you're a non-science major.

Exactly my point. If the "average MCAT" at SGU is 24, that means you have some students who scored over 30 and some who scored under 20 to average at 24. If SGU's Step 1 Pass rate is above 85% as they claim, then that meants that even those students who had under 20 on their MCAT pass Step 1.

I didnt do that great on my MCAT, but I know my USMLE Step 1 score is better than the majority of students at SGU.

If the OP has a low MCAT, he/she can pass USMLE Steps 1,2, and 3...and yes, it will be a lot of very hard work to do so.

PS: The whole MCAT-USMLE correlation is disputed in many studies, so there isnt neccesarily that direct correlation as previously thought.

Actually in reality, Step 1 passing rate is lower because there are people transferred, decelled, dropped out..etc.

I don't believe in direct correlation between the two either. But MCAT does have its merits, contrary to what blakgirl suggests..
