MCAT is not required but they like applicants to have taken it. They say it's for statistical purposes only. There's no deadline but the admissions director says get the application into the offices by mid-June the latest. As far as loans go, you have to apply yourself but SMU provides links to lenders on their website.

I have applied to Wachovia for $25,000 in the IEFC website, but I'm still waiting on the promissory notice. Wachovia Bank is the only lender which uses the Prime Interest Rate from the US out of all the lenders SMU refers you to, the others use a LIBOR index which is British which I am hesitant to use as that information is not readily available to me and I can't tell when interest rates increase or decrease. Plus the rates are the lowest out of all the lenders.

Go to http://smucayman.com/forum/ and hopefully your answers can be better explained.

Re:

MCAT is recommended but not required. I would call SMU regarding the dead line. You will need emmigration paperwork which should be submitted 1 month prior to his start. You need to submit papers from doctor, x-rays and police report, all this could take you several days. It will take you a couple of days to get a loan. To be comfortable I would say 2 months before start, if you want to push it 1 month. Also, I heard that fall semester is more competitive, so I would apply earlier to get a spot. I think he can be admitted on conditional acceptence (I was), after he finishes his classes SMU will change it to unconditional.

Good luck

Should probably pick up his GPA a bit...and at least consider taking the MCAT.

hmmm

Take some easy classes and bring up his GPA. Study like no tomorrow for the MCAT, then do a 1 yr masters and then apply to a US med school. Then consider "off shore" med schools if rejected!!!

Even if he does well on the MCAT the GPA is a blemish on his application
