Direction the SMU forum is taking...

Hey everyone,
I have met a few senior students at Wyckoff recently and during my conversations with them Valuemd has come up. The #1 reason why many stated not wanting to post on this forum is due to the negativity. I noticed that there has been quite a few instances of bickering on the forum. I am disappointed in the direction this forum has been taking lately.

I believe that this forum can be a great tool to disseminate helpful information. I have tried to share as much as I could of what I learned. I share the information that I believe would have been good to know if others would have posted it. Many times I find myself in "unchartered waters" and have to figure out things on my own (use to it now)...It would be wonderful for others to share their experiences so that we are not repeating the same mistakes. Let's try to improve things here.

You never know who is watching what we post...I have noticed a gov't officials from Ca lurking this forum. I know a PD has lurked this forum. Anyone wanting to do a google search on SMU will see quite a few of our posts. What do we want to portray to them? Please be more responsible about what you post. If you are going to make a statement, back it up with some credible evidence. If you are going to post your opinion, whether it is good or bad, do so in a professional manner. If you have an issue with someone, carry your conversation over PM.

Warnings will be issued for those spreading lies intentionally, flaming others, posting personal information, threatening others, using vulgar language (even when you use symbols to get around the censors), trolling, using racial or religious slurs, etc. Hopefully you get my point.

If you don't like what someone is posting, block it with either solid evidence or some humor. I would like to see this forum take steps towards a more positive direction, meaning we can respect each others opinions, where we can agree to disagree. I'm not saying for us all to be cheerleaders, but hopefully you know what I mean.

Unfortunately, this is a anonymous internet forum, and you will always find people with negative attitudes, people who have an actual grievance with the school, and of course trolls who are looking to start rumors and flame wars.

While the mods are doing a good job policing the forum you have to understand what a tough job it really is. They don't want to mod a person simply because they have what you perceive is a negative attitude about something you care about.

I am also disappointed with the arguments, negativity, rumor spreading and trolling but as I stated above, it's unavoidable on the internet.

Great points Juni. I agree with you. SMU is a rapidly growing school and we need to continue this trend. Many people are watching this forum for sure. We need to stick together and be cohesive instead of bickering mindlessly about minute things. There is bickering everywhere, but SMU is a young school and the early stages of SMU's development is CRITICAL for it to rise and impress so we need to becareful what we say here.

I speak for those who are in the SMU forum. Please think twice when you post something. We are professionals and we want to portray our professionalism to the world among other things. We are going to be clinicians and professionalism should be flowing through our veins once we finish school at SMU.

Any personal issues please keep it amongst yourselves and privately PM eachother to sort it out. Please don't just post it openly on the forum because no one cares about that. Personal issues should be kept personal.

I am aiming to be the best and I want SMU to become the best as well. We all need to put in our effort to help it rise. If there are problems that you percieve please talk to the administration. If you have any stats please confirm it with the administration before posting it here.

Lets work together people we can do this...

Aim to be the best...nothing less

But if you want people to follow track, you need to lead by example. As seen above, you need to stay on topic and regulate your "buddies" when they are not on topic.
I don't know what you are talking about...

Re:

When I was deciding which car. medical school to choose I browsed different forums (especially ROSS), and to tell the truth SMU postings seemed quite positive in comparison.

Here at SMU-Forum... most poeple are positive about the school, because it is a good school... better than MOST of the schools out there...

It is only when people bring up personal issues and others personal life on the forum is when it gets dirty...

I agree we are positive people and are for the most part happy students. It is others who try to come in and get us to turn against one another.......or at least to cause so friction among us.
