Latest news at St. Martinus University.

Latest news at St. Martinus University.

Up gradation and renovation of campus

The planned up gradation and renovation of one of the building of St. Martinus is under construction. The new renovated building will house lecture halls, a bigger fully equipped library with more books and facilities, faculty rooms, auditorium etc. The renovation started a month ago; it’s planned to finish at end of this term. The newly renovated building will be the main entrance of the university. Its huge building which can accommodate more than 500 students. I will upload the pictures of the newly renovated building soon.

The new trimester news

In this term we had a good intake of new students. Some of the students couldn’t come as Netherlands Antilles require a visa and permit to study for some of the countries. As few students applied at last moment and their permit couldn’t be made in few days. They will be joining us in next term.

The students are busy with studies. They are having tests every week starting from 2nd week. Plus we had some fun time. A party was organized by the University and SGA to welcome the new students. All the students participated actively and they had a good time on the beach.

One of the most important activities which started this term is hospital visits for the students taking clinical medicine. The students are visiting St. Elizabeth hospital and some other clinics. They spend at least 5-6 hours a day in hospital. So a good hand on experience. Introduction to clinical medicine is being given from MD 1 onwards. These students will be visiting hospital in earlier terms may be MD 3 or MD 4.

One of our student has already started her rotations in Curacao. She started with Psychiatry rotation at a specialized hospital, it a psychiatry hospital.

Clinical Rotations

Additional rotations are being arranged in the states of CT, MD, NC, and MA. They are arranging in other states too but as the contract is not final I can’t say anything about those. But as soon as everything is final I will post the states. All the rotations are arranged at ACGME accredited hospitals only.

USMLE review course

USMLE crash course is also given to MD 5 students. The course is of 14-16 weeks duration with intense preparation. I have taken the course and it helped me a lot. The USMLE review course increased my percentage of about 30%. It’s very helpful, in addition some of the Profs give you personal tuitions in weak areas.

There will be open houses in USA, Canada, Dubai, and India. I will keep posted the latest.

For latest news about St. Martinus University keep track of this forum. I will keep you updated.

St Martinus is a place of great deception and absolute fiction

St Martinus and Adjunct Faculty members

On the St Martinus website you will see a long list of so called Adjunct Faculty members

Please note that only Dr A A who taught Physics to the Pre Med Students from September to December 2004 has ever taught at St Martinus.

Dr S O K who is listed as Adjunct Professor of Public Health and Epidimiology has given one guest lecture on AIDS to the student body, but again he has NOT yet taught at St Martinus.

NONE of the other persons listed have taught at St Martinus.

St Martinus is a place of great deception.

On the St Martinus website you will read "A Faculty mentor is assigned to each student on first enrollment. Students are encouraged to contact their Faculty mentors for counseling on academic or any other University related issues.A Faculty mentor will meet with their respective student(s) at least once during the semester. Students having academic difficulties may need to meet with their Faculty mentor on a more frequent basis."

This is fiction- absolute fiction. IT JUST DOES NOT HAPPEN

St Martinus is a place of great deception. CAVEAT EMPTOR

A bulletin of bovine excrement!

There you go with your bulletin of bovine excrement!

1- Up gradation and renovation of campus

So the owner is working on improving his real estate at Otrabanda. Good for him. And the huge building can accommodate more than 500 students. Hurray! But this semester you got only ELEVEN NEW STUDENTS!

Seems you will have a lot of wasted space!

Methinks the owner will probably rent out all that renovated space, just as he has rented out the space over the restaurant inter alia.

By the way, what is an "up gradation."

2- The new trimester news

I quote "In this term we had a good intake of new students." I guess 11 students is a good intake in one term for St Martinus. After all in May you had 1 new student- and several students left. In January you had only 6 (3 of which have left).

Harken friends! Only the Netherlands Antilles require a visa and permit to study for some of the countries. LOL . One wonders why the school in Bonaire and the two in Aruba all had intakes of much more than 11 new students this semester. LOL

I quote "One of the most important activities which started this term is hospital visits for the students taking clinical medicine." You make this sound as if this is not the norm in medical schools, and as though St Martinus is doing some novel thing.

I quote "One of our student has already started her rotations in Curacao." Hurray after almost 3 years, St Martinus has 1 student in clinical rotations. Lets have a parade in the streets of Otrabanda.

In your new trimester news you have conveniently omitted that YOU HAVE NO ANATOMY TEACHER THIS SEMESTER, and that again your program is not proceeding as advertised, but is following its usual slap dash cut and paste pedagogy.

"At St Martinus we cut our shirts to suit our cloth."
No Anatomy teacher available? Well do another subject. NO students for Anatomy, send the Anatomy teacher to teach Horticulture so we can have nice flowers on our grave when the school dies....as it must very very soon.
USMLE review course

I quote "I have taken the course and it helped me a lot. The USMLE review course increased my percentage of about 30%." any course will increase your percentage by 30%. You have been revising for Step 1 since you came to St Martinus in the middle of the 2004 fall semester.
St Martinus is indeed a place of great deception and absolute fiction.

Looking foward with glee to your puerile prose for a response and your next bulletin.

"MRPIXIE".....just address the issues raised in the posts..... Please, don't get personal with "MsPixie"....

The writer under the pen name of "MSPIXIE" did raise a lot of strong points. The respondent by the name of "MRPXIE" only made fun of her. He didn't address some of the real, core issue "Mspixie" was talking about. As a reader, that leads me to ask a simple question. My question is directed to "MRPIXIE". And it is like this: Sir, is there any validity as to the facts "MsPixie" pointed in her posting?

For my part, I think, if there is factual truth in what "MsPixie" stated, then St. Martinus Univ. needs to get help as a matter of urgency. Anatomy as a subject needs, at least, two teachers. Anatomy (Gross, histology, embryology and cytology) is the foundation of learning, understanding and practising medicine. It is a huge, complicated subject. Understanding anatomy, as it relates to clinical diagnosis, requires a special guidance from the clinically experienced individuals. There is no-way for a 'raw student' to read and cover the entire material in a period of 16 weeks. Therefore, some sort of arrangements need to be put in place to help the students who are taking that vital course now.

In regards to USMLE, that is important to those who want to practice medicine in the USA and/or Canada. In other parts of the world, USMLE may not be that necessary. It would, therefore, seem to me that St. Martinus' training program is much better suited for those who want to practice medicine in other parts of the world (exclusive of USA/CANADA).

There is one thing to point out here. St. Martinus' students reportedly had taken USMLE 1. But up to now, their results continue to remain unreported and therefore unknown to us. In which case, it could be safe to assume that those students might have done USMLE 1 poorly. The writer "Mspixie" in her posting hinted by saying: "You failed with distiction and you were curved in the clinical program...." This remark is, indeed, sad. But it does appear to carry certain degree of truths. If what "MsPixie" stated is true, then the officials of SMU need to quadruple their efforts in order to be able to attract good students in the future.

I very strongly believe that SMU is having problems now, but the university will be improved if the officials work harder at it...... We all love to see St. Martinus University improve......Please don't get personal with "MsPixie", just look at the validity of her allegations; and make corrections where or if any is necessary.

Sorry if I unintentionally offended anybody.....

St. Martinus

I know that Miss Pixie's main aim is school bashing. I don’t want to comment on your mis-directing comments. It will better if I keep studying instead of this meaningless talk otherwise I will land in your situation, sitting idle. You don’t have any work neither you study so keep on writing this. May be this will help you to take out your anger. I wish you good luck.

You wrote so much stuff did it decreased the no. of incoming student? No, we increased the no. of student. You can keep on ranting all this, but it will not affect us. So keep trying, but you will never succeed as this is not the correct path.

Any one who feels can come over and check the university facilities personally. They will know the truth.

For your kind information Dr. S O K is teaching the clinical med. Students at SEHOS. Other adjunct faculty members are also teaching. They will give lectures during this term. As you have good contact with some of your friends, they will let you know.

The renovation is going on we feel happy about all this development. You don’t have to feel happy as you are no longer here. At least our new friends are enjoying over here.
Also due to some immigration problems the Anatomy professor was not able to arrive on time. He arrived this week and Anatomy classes have already started. All the classes for this term are on schedule, only Anatomy started bit late. They will cover up soon. Any other comments.

I will keep posted the latest.

Good luck to you.
