....HURRICANE IVAN MOVING AWAY FROM THE ABC ISLANDS....
STORM IDENTIFICATION: Hurricane Ivan.
INTENSITY CATEGORY: Category Five
CENTER LOCATION: 13.9N 70.0W, 200 km Northwest of Curaçao, 150 km North of Aruba.
LOCATION TIME: 5:00 A.M..
PRESENT MOVEMENT: West Northwest or 290 degrees at 13 kts/ 24 km/h.
MAX WINDS NEAR CENTER: 140 KTS/260 KMH gusting up to 160Kt/300 KMH
DISCUSSION: During the night Ivan further strengthened to an extremely dangerous category Five Hurricane. Last night and this morning the center of Ivan passed at a distantce of approximately 150 km north of the ABC islands. The area of dangerous strong winds and extremely severe weather remained just north of our islands. The hurricane continues moving towards the West Northwest away from the ABC-islands. As the Hurricane is gradually moving away of the ABC islands the Hurricane Warning will be discontinued later this morning
EFFECT ON LOCAL CONDITIONS: Waves and swells generated by the hurricane will still affect the ABC islands with very rough seas along coastal sections of the islands and this will continue throughout today. Owners of small craft are advised not to go out of port.
As the hurricane is moving away from our area weather conditions are gradually improving on the ABC islands. The local weather will remain cloudy today with chance of a few local rain showers.
WATCHES/WARNINGS IN EFFECT: The Hurricane Warning for the ABC islands will be discontinued later this morning. A Small Craft Warning remains in effect for the ABC Islands until further notice.
