St Martinus is not competition for anyone really, kind Sir!

The other schools in the Antilles have all grown faster than St Martinus.

Of course there is a competition between all the “new” schools in Caribbean. All these new school are at same place when it comes to licensure and accreditation.
It’s true other schools in Antilles have grown faster; those schools are there from last so many years. If you are talking about other school then you are wrong, they all are same level. May be they have more student, it’s true we have very few students but this term the student population has grown which I have already mentioned in my last post. This term many new students are coming, few of them have already arrived on the island.

When you get there you will see.

Yes, when the new students arrive on the island they will see the difference. The student you have mentioned, she has been on the Island before and she knows all your lies.

Seems you went to the biggest and oldest Carribean University for your first degree. Congrats. That means that you know what a true University - UNI & VARSITY is..... one body with several schools or faculties that are unified.
What happen? Why wont they let you in any of their Medical Schools. You couldnt cut the mustard? Your grades too low?

You must have been to a established school in USA for your undergrad. Were you denied admission in medical school in states? May be your GPA was very low.
Why everyone comes to Caribbean? Because there is lot of competition and they are not able to secure admission in states. Otherwise who will come to Caribbean? That’s why your friend came to Martinus.

Seems you are from Grenada? (See you defending it in one of your posts). So why couldnt you get into SGU?

Everyone doesn’t get admission in SGU, it’s one of the best. There are lot of other options too.

One of the purposes of this forum is to try to alert prospective students and newbies to the faults and deficiencies of these offshore schools. Many have thereby been diverted from the diploma mills and poorer schools to schools that better suit thier personalities or requirements.
Telling the truth is not school bashing.

It’s true one of the purposes of this forum is information. But your lies are not the proper information. They are misleading to a serious student. Tell the truth, or come and visit St. Martinus and you will know the difference.

Any more of your lies……..

As If!!!

I did not get in for the same reason we are all here, UWI med school is EXTREMELY COMPETITIVE, and genuine, intellgent, hardworking people who did not get 4A's in A levels or a first class degree will not get in. No one on this site can smell the halls of UWI med school. ( I can't believe you even said that...) FYI, i did get into SGU to do a premed year. No I'm not grenadian, but all caribbean people stick together so I will defend grenada any time. I am not defending st martinus, thats not my job, I just think school bashing is immature and I won't be part of it. (i can't believe I am even part of this discussion....I really should be out enjoying myself, living)

The real truth

The students (at St Martinus) run the library. Except for an 8 hr shift by a lady who sits in the library, and who is NOT a trained librarian by any stretch of the imagination it is still true that at St Martinus, that the students run the library. Is this not true smarty bwoy?

Yes, it’s true we do not have a librarian with a degree in library studies. But she holds a degree in accounting. She is doing her job well, our library is very small. As of now we don’t need a proper librarian, may be after few years when the library is big enough we will have a proper librarian.
Yes, the students do work part time in the library. I think is good for students as they are paid for it. I wish I could do that job. As library remains open until 12am mid-night or later. So the students take care of library after 5pm.
My friend works in library of University of Colorado, Denver, does that mean their library is run by students. In states many work part time in university library, computer lab or gym. Same here, the students are getting the opportunity to work part time without wasting their time instead they study in the library. Plus they are paid too, that’s double benefit.

Smart doctor, tell me how many journals and periodicals on the Basic Sciences are in the St Martinus "library". How many books are in your school "library"? 200? 300?
Would you say that the books are housed in one corner on a few shelves in the library? Have you ever been in a real Science or Medical Library in a Real Medical School, Smart doctor?
Don't you think that a serious school should have a proper library with an adequate range of relevant books, and a real librarian?
Would you agree that your primary school and high school library had more books in it than the total number of books in St Martinus? Mine did?

Is it fair to students that they do not have the proper quantity or quality of books, for their education? Is it true that in many cases that even copies of the recommended texts are not available?.

I agree we have few books and journals as compared to other big school or compared to universities in states. As you know ours is very new school and to fill the library it takes time. It’s not one night show, that you can fill the library. The library houses the books which are enough for the current students, as our student population increases, definitely the no. of books will increase though. We have books for all the subjects including all the books which are recommended. They have at least two copies, many are 4 copies. Every term there is continuous flow of books in the library and day by day it’s improving. I have seen library in other Caribbean schools, I can tell for the fact they were much smaller than St. Martinus library. Only few handful books less than 30, and they are not open for a long time. Our library is open from 8am to 12am, during exams 2am. We have all preparation books for USMLE plus a question bank with 20,000 questions.

I have been to bigger library’s which were the size of many Caribbean schools, which you were saying are better than Martinus.

I agree with you that a school do need a proper library with adequate no. of books and facilities; I am sure as school grows the library facilities will improve. This is the basic difference between an established school and a new school. It takes time to do all. St. Georges or Ross is not made in 4 years it took them 20 years to reach this level. Take all the factors into consideration instead of bashing.

I agree many high schools will have a big library than Martinus do. Mine did, but my high school was more than 100 years old. They have more than 100,000 books. Martinus cannot have that no. in 3 years or more so.

Tell everyone that no one can borrow books from the St Martinus"library" --not even overnight. Administratio is fearful that they will lose even the few books they have. This is true is it not so Smart doctor? Will you lie about this too?

Yes, the student cannot borrow books from the library for overnight. Before the students were allowed to borrow books to take them out but in a year or so books worth $5000 were missing. The administration has to take this step not allowing student to take books overnight.

The schools of Veterinary medicine, Nursing and dentistry that are on the web site also never existed, or a program in hyperbaric medicine. The school is shrinking, the backer rents school space out to
retail shops. Is this still true Smart Dr?Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm? Did not Oleander address this recently?
The problem is that the financial backer won´t keep promises. Is this still true Smart Dr?Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm? Have you not witnessed this while you have been there? I did in my very short stay.

If you open martinus website then you cannot access the pages of school of dentistry, veterinary or nursing this means that those doesn’t exist but there are plans to open those schools in future. These programs do not exist here and the school never advertises that these programs exist though. I do not have much idea about this but I can say the school never said these programs exist.
The school is not shrinking, may be you think so. The school is situated in the centre of Otrobanda project. There are lot of convenient stores around. The University is located on 1st & 2nd floor and it’s pretty big. We have big lectures rooms with all latest equipments.

The ground floor of the university houses various convenient stores. There are phone shops, Subway, Ice-cream parlour and many more.

The claim by the school rep last year that a pre-med program exists is also a lie. There were a few pre-med students last fall for one semester, but since then Smart doctor? Oleander is quite correct when he says that there is much representation on the St Martinus website is he not?

The pre-med program does exist at St. Martinus. Last year there were few students in premed program. This year those who came were accepted in MD1, so there was no premed. Starting from September ’05 we have premed program and there are many students for that Above all the university does conduct premed classes in India. They have around 10 students currently in premed program. As it takes time for immigration, the students finish premed and then join MD1. . So the premed program does exist. I have not counted those 10 students in enrolled students so it makes more than 45. And probably 10-15 students will be starting premed in September. So the no. of enrolled student is rising. Are you satisfied now, the premed program does exist.

Students are leaving, with the exception of the students who are almost through this mess, and the locals who are charity cases and can´t go anywhere else.

Isnt this still true in large measure Smart Dr?Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm? In the last semester alone about 10 students quit, is this not so, smart doctor? When one considers that the total roll is well under 40- this is a significant percentage of defaulters. Lie about this smarty, so that we can call the names of the defaulters, who left or quit this last semester. But be careful, we are well informed. We have good friends on campus still. Its just that they cant afford to leave.......... yet.
One of the new replacement professors is a relative of the backer with no obvious teaching experience, Isnt she young, and we are told just only herself finished step 1 smart doctor? Dont good schools have experienced teachers?

Yes, student did leave Martinus. Some of them ran without informing, their failed transcripts are still with the university. They have the credits for the same course from some other university without repeating the course. Above all they didn’t pay their due amount to the university. So tell me which university is a diploma mill? St. Martinus never gave free diploma to anyone and will never give. Failures do jump from one university to other where they get free transcripts. For your information, those students then transferred to some other university. So tell who is at fault, St. Martinus or the Students.

I know your good friends on the university. There are not tied over here, if they wish they can also leave anytime it doesn’t make any difference. Why can’t they leave, there are many cheaper medical schools in Caribbean. Did it make any difference when you all left, still we are getting many new students this term. All the new students who are coming they have personally visited Curacao. They knew everything and they have done their research personally. They are not dependent on your lies and no one believes you.

She is one of the best professors of the university. She doesn’t give free grades to the failed students. She has studies in one of the best school of Costa Rica. She was a scholar there. Does it make sense that a relative of the board of directors cannot teach in the university. She has passed step 1 with a great score, this give a idea to everyone, how good are teachers at St. Martinus.

The Pathology Professor mentioned in
FIRSNS1" post that is cool, has since left, is this not so Smarty?

He took a term off. He needs a break as he has some personal stuff to do. He will be coming back in January term. Our new pathology professor was teaching at University of Pittsburgh, PA. Just think how good she is. She has teaching experience and she is board certified pathologist. Our professors are good and all the students are happy with them. I don’t have to write more, everyone can understand where we stand in terms of academics and facilities.

If St. Martinus survives it will be a dog like Spartan or St. James. It isn´t accredited anywhere in the states. If you pay tuition to these people, you may be losing your moneyALL THESE ISSUES THAT ARE BOLD AND UNDERLINED ARE TRUTHS THAT CANNOT BE DENIED--- THEY WERE ALL ADDRESSED BY FIRSNS1 LAST YEAR. NOTHING HASCHANGED ONE YEAR LATER.St. Martinus isn´t accredited anywhere in the states-- nor in Curacao either. Isnt it true smart doctor that the school is trying still to get the local medical fraternity to accept the school. When we went to the local medical conferences, were we not told this?

Very soon you will know where St. Martinus stands. I have already wrote earlier that it takes time for accreditation. Any school cannot get accreditation when they just start. See at other schools in Caribbean, they are also not accredited, because they are new.
Our students do visit SEHOS and other smaller hospitals in Curacao during their basic science. Does any other school have hospital integrated teaching in basic sciences? We do have. Many of the guest lectures were given by local doctors. Accreditation in Curacao also takes time, it’s under process. St. Martinus is chartered in Curacao. FYI please check WHO directory and IMED directory.
As a WHO and IMED listed school we can apply for licensure anywhere with few exceptions.
I went to many conferences, met local doctor nobody told me all this, what you are talking about.

I hope I have made everything clear. All the nonsense you are writing isn’t true. You are talking about a year back story, which is not valid now.

Study and let others study. May be you got free grades from some other university after transferring out from Martinus. We have to work hard to pass our exams. I was not writing anything from last many months, but when you guys keep on popping with new IDs with all this B.S then I have to come to speak out the truth. Lies can never conquer truth. You will keep on searching last year threads to bring them up. Those things don’t exist now. We are current students over here and we know more than you do.

I have many things to tell, but I will keep them posted after they are officially announced.
So keep track of this forum, many more to come.

Now we can relax in anticipation of a lot of drivel and lies from Smart dr as he pathetically tries to defend all the deficiencies at st martinus. .......BUt if it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it is a DUCK. The real truth about St Martinus

After much of smart doctor's drivel and dreary diatribe we learn the following about St Martinus

1- The St Martinus Administration hired a girl with a degree in accounting as the librarian.

2- Smart doctor agrees that St Martinus's library is very small.

3 Yes, the students do work part time in the library.

Can you imagine that a serious student would write such junk as this.......? ...."As of now we dont need a proper librarian, may be after few years when the library is big enough we will have a proper librarian." So you are admitting that you dont have a proper librarian

4- Smart doctor admits that there are few books and journals in the St Martinus library. He finds it impossible for a very new school to have a proper library. After a good start he reverts to his confabulations thus..........We have books for all the subjects including all the books which are recommended.
Smart doctor you expose yourself as a story teller when you write "I have seen library in other Caribbean schools, I can tell for the fact they were much smaller than St. Martinus library. Only few handful books less than 30, and they are not open for a long time." The truth is that you came from India to Curacao. Do correct your fib that your library is open from 8am to 12am, during exams 2am, as the library is opened later only when a certain student is there.

5- - Smart doctor admits that a school needs a proper library with anadequate number of books and facilities, but his bias does not allow him to understand that a good library is a great priority in a school..

6- Smart doctor admits that students cannot borrow books from the library at all or even for overnight. However, he sides with administrations ineptitude to provide proper library facilities by pointing out that St Martinus admits students who tend to steal books at the rate of $5000 per annum.
He is admitting that after three years St Martinus does not provide adequate reading material for its students on either a quantitative or qualitative basis

7- Smart doctor admits that St Martinus website contains inaccuracies about schools of dentistry, veterinary and nursing that do not actually exist. He is so biased, or stupid that he does not realize or understand that his school is thus advertising programs that he admits does not exist.

8- Smart doctor does not understand that St Martinus only seems to have a pre-med program in September when they tend to get thier highest enrollment for the year, but he does admit that "Last year there were few students in premed program."

With respect to India, every one at St Martinus knows that every semester one hears that 20 students are coming from India, a whole village is coming from India etc and very few come.

9- Smart doctor writes "This year those who came were accepted in MD1, so there was no premed." Is this not was said before?

He continues " Starting from September ’05 we have premed program and there are many students ." But he does not say how many are many?

10 Would you believe it? Smart doctor writes "Yes, student did leave Martinus. " He then qualifies this by some libel that he can not prove.

11 By stating that a junior professor who has only just passed step 1 with a great score is one of the best professors of the university, Smart doctor leaves his readers wondering how good the St Martinus teachers really are.

12 Smart doctor admits that St. Martinus is not asccredited.

13 He believes that St Martinus is novel because a few students were involved in hospital integrated teaching in basic sciences. At MUA SABA IUHS AUA to name a few there is much better hospital integrated teaching in basic sciences than at St Martinus.

14 Smart doctor, wheras it would be a lie if I said that there were not ANYguest lectures at St Martinus in the last year. By the same token there were not MANY!
One chap came to talk about skills training labs, Dr ***** spoke on AIDS, and I heard two Dutch psychiatrists came and gave some lousy lectures one afternoon. 1, 2 3 lectures! Untrue to say there were not ANY, but equally untrue to say that there were MANY!
NO NO NO Smarty You have not made ANYthing clear. BY ADMITTING TO THE THINGS LISTED ABOVE THAT APPEARED IN MY POST you indeed agreed with me that not much new has happened at St Martinus even one year after DOA was first written. By saying lies lies lies all the time will not make what you are saying true. Yes indeed "Lies can never conquer truth."

ST MARTINUS is truly dead on arrival even one year later

Again we can relax in anticipation of a lot of drivel and lies from Smart dr as he pathetically tries to defend all the deficiencies at st martinus. .......BUt if it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it is a DUCK. Likewise ........................physical infrastructure does not make a school.
Schools are run and led by folk with experience and expertise.

Go head try to ban me...........thereby admit that you are not able to debate with me or reason logically with me.

Do as you are taught at St Martinus If you dont agree with a man. or if a man dares speak the truth about St Martinus DO WHAT YOU CAN TO SHUT HIM UP. .............but beware many who are not net commenting are indeed watching.

Did you pass all your subjects

Just reply in one line. Did you pass all your subjects when you were at Martinus?

I know you didn’t pass I can prove that.

I know when you fail and frustrated then these things are common.

Study and pass all your subjects to become a good doctor instead writing on this forum which will not help you.

Just tell the user’s the truth, did you pass all your subjects?

All the prospective students should check the university on their own. They should not depend on someone’s opinion, one who failed.

All the current students enrolled have visited St. Martinus. They are satisfied and very happy. Nobody cares about your opinion. You must have visited St. Martinus before then why did you take admission at Martinus. May be none of the top 6 schools accepted you.

First look in yourself before exploring this world.

Study my friend, this will not help you.

smu doa update

When you read the origanal post on this thread, written about 18 months ago, and you visit the St Martinus campus to day, you will notice that not much has really changed. but.......

The assistant physio-micro professor mentioned in that post is now the Dean.

The students still run the library.

The school is still shrinking, the backer still rents school space out to retail shops. The school is over a cafe, a cell phone shop and a Subway. The problem is still that the financial backer won´t keep promises. He still bounces checks off of the faculty and the good ones still leave left because they didn´t believe they were going to be paid or didn´t believe he was serious about having a real school.

Two experienced professors left in August. A new one is reported to have lasted 2 weeks.

Students are leaving with the exception of the students who are almost through this mess, and the locals who are charity cases and can´t go anywhere else.

The very best student of the school ever - a local boy- left in August and his new school will not accept any of his St Martinus credits. He has to start his medical training over completely.
The only student to pass STEP 1 so far has quit the inept clinical program at the local hospital SEHOS.

St. Martinus isn´t accredited anywhere in the states. It is not even accredited in Curacao as you can see from Mike Caesar's articles in Chronicle of Higher Education.

If you pay tuition to these people, you may be losing your money. THIS IS ALSO STILL TRUE

Actually St. Martinus is much worse than Spartan or St. James, or XUSOM or All Saints or Windsor
If you cant get in to ROSS SGU AUC SABA there is ST Matthews AUA MUA

smartdr I have now finished my basic science program, but I did not take a year to complete MD 5

Also I graduated at our white coat ceremony.

Will let you know my step 1 score soon

Can you tell me yours?
