Through AMSA I am participating in an intensive workshop entitled "Inside My Heart But Outside The Box". Below is the description from the AMSA website.
Inside My Heart But Outside the Box: Thinking, To Change the Health Care Box
Sept. 23-25, 2005
Hosted by Patch Adams and the School for Designing a Society
Held at the School for Designing a Society in Urbana Illinois, this 3-day heart-and-brain-shop specifically addresses those people wanting to explore and re-invigorate their desires for desirable health care delivery systems. Medical and nursing students, public health activists, midwives, patients, community dreamers-all are welcome to participate. The starting point of this vision questwill be the question, What do I want for health care delivery? (not the questions, what is realistic? what is costaffordable? etc). Other topics: Health care justice, ethics and politics of care, innovative health care design systems, Cuban health care system, changing the US system from managed care to care is what manages.
I want to remind all medical students to become involved in more than the classroom. More growth opportunites are available at
www.amsa.org. At the end of all this mess we call medical school, it is our patients and communities we serve. Don't lose site of the goal.
