    Fall 2005

I have just recently been accepted into St. James as a pre-medical student. I was wonder who all is attending in 05 or is currently enrolled into the schools. I was also wondering what the demographics of the students were at St. James. When i see pictures of the schools, I see alot of desi people. I wanted to know if this sschool is all desi or is there a good mixture.

There used to be a fairly good mix of students, but with the Financial Aid problems only Canadians and students whose parents self-fund their education will be able to attend the school. If this results in an increase in desi people, let us know.

    Nervous

Im kinda nervous to comit myself to a school where I know nothing about. It doesnt really help when no one responds to these forum's when someone wants info. Im trying to see what kinda of people are at this school. If i look at the pics, I see nothing but desi's. Someone please break it down for me who goes to this school and what their backgrounds are. It makes a difference when I am tryin to figure out what school to attend.

    hope this helps

well depends on a semester basis...the last two semesters for instance didn't have that many desi's....but before that majority were desi's to come here....
also since u are planning to come to the premed program.....prepare yourself....the island life gets to everyone in thouse 32mths.....i would advise u do your college work in US and then give us a try later.....but that is all upto u....tc....feel free to post any questions u have.....

    Lightbulb Fall 2005

I definitely agree with Canadiankid. I would really advise you to get your undergraduate degree in a 4 year college and then come to Medical School in the Caribbeans. It is very essential to have an undergrade degree. It weighs a lot when you apply for residency. I also think when students come straight from high school to caribbean for medical school they don't get a good understanding of medical school. There are a lot tougher classes in college that you need to experience so you can tackle the hard work in a Medical Institution. You also should take a variety of classes such English and Math. Some Caribbean Medical Schools straight from High School do not even offer English and Math and then when you apply for residency you will be SCREWED. So PLEASE go to college first!!!! If worse comes to worse get 90 credits in college and then apply to a caribbean medical school but I STRONGLY ADVISE you to get an undergrade degree!!!!!!

    Very True...

I strongly agree with Canadiankid and USMLELIFE.... My personal opinion is that a Physician should be well-rounded and classes taken in undergrad can help you become just that... Not to mention, Undergraduate study may also help you appreciate more what you will be learning in Med school...
