You guys.... I'm not provoking you guys. This ihas nothing to do with maturity.

When some of you guys transfer, and I know who you are, you will feel this too.

If you guys can't see this thing as an omen of the treatment you guys could easily get then.... I'm sorry and it's a shame. Any school owner with scruples should not be acting this way towards students.. Especially a medical institution.
Just to be clear, We didn't get screwed yet because we are following all proper steps. It's not on my credit report or anything yet. And we all who transferred will try to keep it that way.

That is my last post on this thread. Good luck to all of you.

Frankenstone

Hello everyone on the Forum,
I too, like Frankenstone was a student at SJSM, I didn't need to bash about the school, although I didn't like the school, or the man running the school. The truth spoke for itself. It is ashamed that so many students have to come to the island and realize that. I knew most of the people making the posts on this board as of last year, and have heard that a lot of them have transferred to Xavier. I have friends that have stuck with ST. James, and have written Step 1, and they are doing rotations. I am currently at Xaviers, doing all my rotations in Atlanta. I am finishing my last core elective Pediatrics at an ACGME acredited hospital. The rumors that the hospital is kicking us out, is not true, we are still doing our rotations with no problems whatsoever. We still have grand rounds, and close to 300 students from St. Matthews, MUA, St. Christopher's, IUHS, AUC and many other places as well. The administration of Xavier are closely related to GMC. I am not going go into details of that here. And they are starting a school in Aruba, which all charters and permits are granted from the governor.
It is true that St. James is giving all the ex-students that transferred out to Xaviers a hard time. Everyone of them. Even here in Atlanta showed me a letter that Dr.____gave them, stating that they owe 4000 dollars. But, that is too bad. The school had a website last year that stated that they would give 100% back if they decided not to attend the school. And 90 % back if they decided to drop out in the first week. Now, that has changed. I was one of the people who paid my full tuition and they never reimbursed me, when I decided to transfer to Xavier in for my last semester.
That is too much to ask for us students with little $$$, and the campus still looks like shambles, although it is true that they did move to the hospital. There are so many truths to what people say here, but, there are good sides to every story. There is hope...for any one. As long as the school is IMED approved, and you are capable in taking the USMLE, and without licensing issue in your state, no problem. Isn't that the main concern for anyone, coming here to a Caribbean Med school?
Really, I am thankful that I transferred to Xavier, I am going to match in 2006

So it was written and so it will be done.

you know... every semester there is something that happens to SJSM that affects the student negativly... and every semester we have those who are apathetic, but go on... Those that want to do something to help but are scattered...and those that are the idealists who do something for the greater good.

Yes, the governor knows about sJSM and some of it's unethical practices. It's mostly the voice of students who are trying to leave SJSM.

Maybe current SJSM could take a stand with the former students. B/c it really is unethical if you think about it. This negativity does hurt student morale.

Ever heard the expression "don't start pooh pooh there won't be pooh pooh"... I think it was a song. Well regardless it kind of applies. Think about it if these rules weren't in place to prevent us from leaving there wouldn't be this needless drama. and perhaps some students who have left the school would actually for once speak highly of it. <noted cases>

and for us current students maybe we can actually learn to trust the administration... well I was thinking about consulting lawyers and the governor to see what can be done.

Dr. G doesn't answer phone calls or write back. He seems totally complacent allowing student to put time, money, their lives really on the line. And not providing good service and renagging on the ones we had/have.

SO I thinking if it takes a good swift kick in the nuts to get the ball rolling in the right direction again then it should be done. I think other current students need to get in on this because we're nothing if we don't stand together.

No one seems to have a voice about gun control till they get shot...let us not be the people before us

i got to chime in here

both schools have their advantages and disadvantages.but all in all,i think the people in st. james who stayed in st. james should be proud of themselves, not to go transfer on hopes and promises and nothing concrete. xavier's tactics for recruiting is borderline unethical. that alone should have raised red flags. u guys shouldnt just jump for the first thing that comes ur way. seriously, before the current loan situation with st. james happened, why did everyone leave to xavier's.im curious to know
