updates for coming may semester

first of all let me begin by congratulating the graduating class 0f may 05. Surely u guys were the best class our school has so far. great party, great food, great event. Thank you for it all. and best of luck now on your USMLE's. keep us posted.
second, I was told to expect around 20 new students for the coming semester. most of them are transfers though from aruba and curacao mostly. so the may class will be small as usual.
third, the dentist housing won't be ready till june. work is currently taking place around the clock. in the meanwhile plan to stay at eden beach or harbor village till its ready. kaya amsterdam appartments might be available.
fourth, hospital building is ready and will take in 2 more new classes this coming semester. also the labs in the hospital building should be up by the end of this coming semester
fifth, make sure u take an extra copy of all your documents. u might need them for immigration. currently the island is undergoing a change of head.
thats it for now. will keep u posted on any new developments..
feel free to post any questions u have.

hospital related medical program

I think the new moderator of this site is very informative so far. Keep it up. It is good to see that St. James is continually moving into Bonaire Hospital. I think this is important to increase the stature and training in the school. Is it also possible for SJU students to do clinical rotations in Bonaire? That would be encouraging as one moves toward DOE status, etc. At some point schools that are self-contained to some degree, may fare better. Also, the school would then have some of the 3rd and 4th year students on the same campus so they can help tutor the 1st and 2nd years, and provide support and a continuum.

I concur...

I agree, Canadiankid is doing a great job keeping us informed of the school's progress... Keep up the good work Canadian kid!!!

Also Prof, you make an excellent suggestion... The school should definitely look into Bonaire clerkships, although, the clinical exposure students get there might not be as good as the clinical experience you might get in a U.S. hospital. But some electives there might be something to strongly consider, in my opinion... SJSM already has a Surgery and IM club in Bonaire that allows students into the hospital to observe surgeries and shadow a physician for the day. These clubs were just started last semester. I never took part in it but those students that have speak very highly of the experience. The people at the hospital are very accommodating to SJSM students.
