My Personal Opinion

Hi Guys....

I'm a student at Xavier University but mind you I came down to the island to go to St. James. I don't know how all you St. James kids do it, my friend and I transferred after our first week at St. James. The building is horrible, the administration is horrible, the teachers are horrible and the policies are horrible, what more can I say? As for canadiankid...this is an opinion coming from someone who has been in Xavier for over a month and someone who knows both sides. Xavier is truly alot more help and definitely more professional. As for frankenstone and doing PDI in the hospital, do they give you papiamentu classes before they put you in the hospital, I mean how do u really communicate with the patient without knowing the language? Doc73, you're definitely on the right track, I mean you've seen it for yourself I can't say anymore. Hopefully all of you prospective students will make a wise choice also. Ciao

P.S no offence to anyone...just my personal opinion.

Dr. Van Der Veen is the Director of the St. James SM. He takes you into the Hospital with him outside of PDI class. He is the ONLY person with connections with the hospital director on the island. They have formal agreements with our school. So, we don't need to know Papiementu, we have Dr. Van Der Veen. He sets up all the surgery observations also. As far as learning PDI, Jpryor has 20 years recent experience in the States and his diagnoses teaching is A+.

If I remember, you were here less than a week before you transferred, or one. I personally wouldn't transfer to a school I saw in passing when I got here, you could have transferred after one semester. There are more important things to worry about than friendly people and a nice building. Sometimes things don't start off as smooth as you would like.

I really don't have anything against Xavier except that it is too new. I like some of the students like Thusie and the Dean of Xavier is my old ex-Anatomy professor. Good guy.

Either way, good luck in your studies nd I will see you around the playa.

The facts are this:

Xavier does have a nicer building. But that's about it.
St James does have computers and a well stocked library (and yes, besides hundreds of medical texts, it does have texts on many other non medical related issues). Saint James does have US residencies and most of the faculty at Xavier were stolen from St James (which is unethical, especially in the way XAVIER went about it).

better than WHO?

Xavier has better and more solid ACGME clinical rotations.

If you ask me thats all that matters.. all other schools say they will give you rotations but u know they put u in some hospital that is "green book" for just on thing and make you complete all your rotations.. that is some blue book garbage that startted a few yrs ago..

dont be fooled.. get all your rotations ACGME...

I guess i should of gone to Xavier.. im having problems with geting my license now..

Hi. I'm sorry to hear that; I hope all works out well for you. I'm sure you will find a way. By chance, were you a student at St. James School of Medicine? If not, which medical school do (or did) you attend? Are they trying to help you? I certainly hope so; they should be in this with you all of the way. Best wishes!

rotations

the only thing going for xavier is a the admissions lady.. i believe her name is misty something..

when i called to inquire.. well she was the sweetest thing..

other than that... students tell me they suck...

thier rotations may be acgme but.. u know the quality sucks..

The doctors dont care.. they have like 2 - 4 sometimes even more students than that.. No on calls.. the grand rounds suck.. they think they all great.. I mean the atlanta general/medical center pgy1md director, and program.......

But then again all the schools are there to make money.. I agree graduate.

If XAVIER is as great as everyone at Xavier makes it out to be, then how come Xavier does not have its OWN forum on valuemd? Why do you guys repeatedly come on St. James forum and advertise on it? Why not go on the forums of Ross, SGU, SMU, SABA and MUA? Why don't you guys stop bashing each other? Competition is great but not if it leads to destruction. These are honest question with no intention of pouring oil on the fire 8)
