Things to Bring

Is there anything specific that we should bring to Bonaire, that cannot be found there? Or anything that you wished that you had brought along?

Thanks

Okay, so no takers yet, I get it--everyone is busy, but here are a few things that come to mind:

Brita Filter
Duct Tape (in case you have to put your stuff in storage over breaks)
Special food that you can't find anywhere on the island
Candy (b/c I hear it's expensive over there)
Mosquito Repellent
Sunblock

Actually I think you can find most stuff in Bonaire, but I guess I'm asking if we need anything special?

Oh thanks for the head ups on bug repellent, Payal.

As for sun block for us naturally tan people; we are naturally endowned with overactive melanocytes LOL

Some things that come to mind are:

a) mp3 player (for studying purposes)
b) lots of pens, pencils, notebooks, folders
c) highlighters
d) bags of Chinese noodles? (well for those who don't fear sodium intake, lol)

Thats all that comes to my mind right now. Will add some more later.

Best Regards,
Bran

Bug spray is a good idea to bring. No need for a water filter, the water here is fine to drink right from the tap. You can get duct tape here as well at the Superstore so you don't need to take up space in your suitcase for that. Stationary supplies are definitely good to bring. They have all of that here but it's pretty expensive so I usually load up when I go home over breaks. Oh, and if you are bringing your printer (which is a good idea) make sure to bring enough cartridges to get your through the semester because they can be al ittle harder to find here and are expensive as well. Ramon noodles are sold everywhere here so no need to pack them. They run about $1 a package so still a cheap way to go for dinner. You can get mac n' cheese, spaghetti-o's,bags of chips, oreos, and all kinds of normal junk food here too. The grocery stores sell name brand cereals, pop tarts, coke, pepsi, capri sun, arizona iced tea and other names we all know so it isn't like coming down to a complete change from home. You might want to bring some electrolyte drink mixes (crystal light has some good ones now), it's pretty easy to get dehydrated your first couple of weeks here. Coffee (Maxwell House & Folgers) and tea (Lipton) are sold at the stores too and if you need a coffee machine the Superstore has the kind with a reusable filter so you just wash it out and don't need the paper ones. A cooling pad for your laptop is a must!!! You might want to bring an external hard drive too for all of the files and study material you get from other students. Surge protectors from the US work a lot better than the ones they sell here so you could bring one or two of those. An extra battery for your laptop, extra headphones. If you're a smoker, they sell cigs here cheaper than in the US but only have a few brands to pick from. You are allowed to bring in 1 carton from home, if you bring more they will most likely take them at the airport (some of my classmates have had that happen). Batteries for your camera, watch and mp3 players are another idea.

Hope that helps! Just tried to think of all the stuff I wished I would have known about before getting here but stock up on now when I get home!!

Hey cglass,

Thank you so much! That really helps when packing, you saved me like 40 pounds of stuff that I can find there anyway. Thanks

Yes Cglass, thank you for taking the time in your busy schedule to help us; it is really appreciated. I have a question of my own does anyone know what is standard in a furnished apartment there. Are there sheets, dishes and etc. Just curious to know how much preparation and set up is needed.
Thanks in advance to everyone who is sharing information and helping out
