Talking January 2008 Students!

Hey, I did a search for a Spring 2008 thread, and couldn't find one. I've just decided to come down to St. James in January, and I was wondering if anyone else on these forums is doing the same. It would be great to at least somewhat "know" some new people (as well as veteran students, LOL) before I get to the island. I have been a lurker on this thread for ages, but now that I've officially made my decision to come to Bonaire, I can't wait to get acquainted with everyone. Maybe we can all get together for dinner or something in January? See you all soon!

Make sure you bring copies of ALL of the paperwork you send to SJ. They lost quite a few of our information that we needed for immigration. So much for spending all the money to get things notarized and apostilled just to have the Chicago office lose them.

The facilities are alright, everything is located downtown main street. There is a gym here, I believe you can get membership for it, I have not gone to it so I dont know much in detail. A couple of the professors teach very well and a couple like to cancel class whenever they want. Going to class definately helps in where you stand in the book however it's mostly self-taught. Things that need to be focused on are discussed in class but basically, I come home read the book, make my own notes and study from them. I usually go into detail and write down what we've covered in class as well. Housing can be a problem when you first arrive. Dont hestitate to communicate with students. It seems as if there aren't enough places to live on the island for the number of people on the island haha...You can find a 2-bedroom apartment starting from 600-1000 dollars. That means, from 300 to 500 a person. That is only rent and then electricity and utilities is separate which is usually about another 100 more. Internet is about 30 dollars and if you have roomates, you can split it..it really depends on which company you get internet installed from. The 2 that I know of are Flamingo and Telbo. Telbo is a bit more expensive but consistent connection. Flamingo is what I have right now tho. If there are any other questions you can contact me via aim: Anjani379 or msn Aniea84@hotmail.com.... I'd be more than glad to help with anything I am aware of.

Batsheep, they wouldn't process my app until I had in my LoRs, but if you talk to them, they might possibly go ahead and set up your interview if you promise them that the LoRs are on their way. One of mine apparently got lost in the mail, and when I called about it, they went ahead and scheduled my interview as long as I had the professor fax in my LoR ASAP. Anyway, good luck and I hope to see you in my classes!

Also, Anjani, you're already there and I'm coming, so I'll see you in January! How do you like it, as far as the school, the island, your life, etc?

Hey! It's great to hear that you'll be there in January 08 (like me). So... you visited Bonaire and St. James, huh? What did you think? Any impressions you can share with us as a fellow future student?
