doubts and concerns about st. james

it seems the more i research into st. james the sketchier it seems to get. for one i cant get a loan because st. james is not accredited in the U.S. yet. From what i can gather, they applied for licensure in the U.S. a couple of years ago but got rejected for some reason (maybe not established enough). also, the sjsm website is really sketch it says grads have found residency but does not provide any emails of the grads for us to find out more info (almost every other school provides a list of names, emails, rotation locations, etc...) I understand u can get rotations in the U.S. but does anyone know anyone that has completely finished school/residency at sjsm and is currently practicing anywhere in the U.S.? i really want to attend sjsm but not if i will be throwing away over $150,000+ and not being able to practice in the country i live. i have also been accepted into hope medical institute in lublin, poland. the people there are really nice, helpful, and informative regarding every aspect of their school. they answered every question regarding accreditation, rotations, they way the school works (non-profit). sjsm seems to only answer questions they have premade answers for and since it is a for-profit university i think they are having a tough time getting students to come to sjsm b/c they are not accredited in the U.S. yet and/or have no loan service. btw being listed on the WHO does not account for anything, nor does it mean the school in accredited. For those planning on going to sjsm, RESEARCH, since there is no loan service you will be in a big hole if u graduate and end up not being able to be licensed. dont be caught up in the fact you got accepted into a medical school. just a heads up. i understnad the school is new, but why does the faculty not clear all this up if they want students to attend sjsm? i hope i am just being overly paranoid about all this but unless all this is cleared up i will still have my doubts.

Weekend will be a little tough to catch any students. We are up to our ears with studying. You could stop by the student center (blue building at the Y, it says SJSM) and see if any students are there studying. Otherwise, Monday will have everyone at school. Go see Della in administration, tell her you are a prospective student and ask her is a SGA rep could show you around. She should be able to find someone. We take breaks once per hour so you will see a lot of students milling around outside classes. Come and talk to us. Good Luck

None of the medical schools located in the Caribbean are US accredited.

Hope may not be for profit, but the american office (in Va, I think) certainly is. You pay much more than your polish counterparts to attend, guess who gets that extra cash? The HMI office. That being said, HMI is a better school IMHO. I have rotated with their students, and while a lot of them have trouble passing USMLE, the ones who pass tend to do OK.
