Hey zeus77! Pardon my curiosity Was NYSED open for business on Saturday night (of July 4th weekend) ? Sorry, I just couldn't resist. But situation with TX and Carib schools comes to mind. Many folks are doing residency in Austin, Houston, El Paso etc. But when it comes to full licensure they hear (ala Bush) "don't mess with Texas"

A school does not have to be on the list for residency just clinicals, as far as I understand it the school is approved on case by case.?

case by case is an interesting phrase. it can be interpreted many ways in different states. in texas they mean that a school must demonstrate that it is equal to a Texas LCME school. the criteria they have used in the past is has been the Cali list as well as the accreditation commission on colleges of meddicine. this body is recognized by national committee on foreign medical education and accreditation branch of the U.S. dept of education as an accreditation body having standards comparable to the LCME. this is how auc, SGU, and ross students can get federal funding and how they have been licensed in various 'difficult' states.

if you are denied a license it helps to show them that the federal govt basically recognizes that your school has standards similar to LCME schools.

so that is what they mean with case by case. how would you guys prove to these paper pushers that SJ has similar standards to a Texas LCME school?

by having as many approvals, accreditations, affiliations as it can and hoping that the board is in a good mood that day.

Question Radiology Residency in PGY 1?

How did someone get a Radiology Residency? Don't you have to complete the trans year then apply in your PGY 2 for Radiology Residency? I have an older sister who is finishing up her fellowship in IR and that is what she had to do. Has it changed?

no it hasn't changed but even if you have to do a pre-lim year like rehab, rads, etc you still match into the program regardless of wether you do your pre-lim year elsewere or like some programs it is included in the program schedule. so even if you need a pre-lim year you still matched into that specialty and can list as being matched there (your contract is signed)
