Just a word of warning to whoever is considering "little venice" formerly known as tropical flamingo...all places in bonaire are kinda shady and you will have problems wherever you go...i have lived in a few of these places and little venice/tropical flamingo was the most unprofessional place I had to deal with.

Nothing, and I mean nothing gets fixed. the owner -n- avoids you like the plague once he gets your money. and btw you will not get your deposit back even if you leave the place pristine...i have always recieved my deposit back at every other place i have lived at in bonaire except this place.

You will be lectured about A/C consumption, and electric consumption and there are spot checks during the day. believe me they are not pleasant. If you go back home over winter break or any of the other breaks, your apartment will be rented out for a few days to new incoming students, this has happened to several people that i know are currently living there.

So beware, if you want to deal with creepy sleeze bags, by all means live here, but there are better places and you should shop around.

So you require the standard norm. Not sure how it is contrary to anything, everywhere makes the deposit first month rent.

I'm pretty sure I can speak for myself and my roommates when I say we've never encountered a problem with this place....

When I came to Bonaire I did the whole "don't sign a contract till you get here" thing, and was surprised to find a whole bunch of dumps on the island. Lots of landlords barely speak english, or they do speak english but don't understand what you're trying to say. Almost EVERY landlord wanted two months worth of rent as a deposit... And don't even get me started on using realtors. Long story short--my roommate found this place, we went to see the property, saw the apartment, and it was a done deal. Never got a lecture on power usage or anything else.

All I can say is that while other students are complaining about how its so hot in their place, and how they can't run electricity cause they have to worry about bill, I just shrug my shoulders. We've never had any problems like that here. If anything, I would mention that its a lot like a college dorm--which is nice if thats your thing. Lots of people to bug and to bug you when you get burned out from studying, which I actually enjoy (I know someone out there is reading this knows who I am and is thinking "really?" haha, yes really folks come on over--even if I kick you out I'll make it fun). And thats the other thing, we all get a long great so it's a nice breather when you just need to hang out.

As far as the owner never getting back to you? Tough luck for you. I bet you never bothered talking to his secretary who oversees a lot of requests when he's not available. She's been great.

Spot checks? Ummmm, no, never. That would be a deal breaker for a lot of us here. That's more bullshh than anything else I've heard you rant about. And no, no one gets their place rented out on break--again that would be a deal breaker and huge liability on the owner if anything went missing.

Now that I'm re-reading your post, I think you're just some kid with a lousy attitude----you state that "i have lived in a few of these places"....To live in a "few" places in the short 16month stay on the island implies a lot, so I'm not going to go there.
I'm sure you're going through a few more place in chicago, so have fun Ha

Yes and No.....all depends on where you rent. Lots of places charging double deposits, not many places that only charge the first months rent. Its all in what you find.

Good for you that you have had an amazing experience there.

I'm sure you're going through a few more place in chicago, so have fun Ha---actually renting a one bedroom for 10 months now, Chicago is so much better than Bonaire, have fun while you're there though!

Well obviously you are more mature than me...attacking me for expressing my opinions and experience on valuemd. but whatever, i think that others should know that the first few months are just peachy then it goes downhill from there. Tropical Flamingo/Little Venice may have cleaned up their act, but it still leaves a bad taste...And this "kid" is doing clinicals in Chicago, and I have a few more months left until i get my MD, I'm sure my "lousy attitude" got me to where i am today

Again, these were MY experiences, you are (supposedly) mature enough to form opinions for yourself, but it does not mean that you can pass judgement on another person's experience. Just chill, it's not like you have a personal investment in renting out Little Venice apartments and let ppl express their opinions and experiences, then maybe you'll be mature enough to treat patients.

The fact that you joined ValueMD just to make a post doesn't bode well either. We have never had an issue refunding deposits, even when damage was evident. However, in some rare cases there is excessive damage (large holes in drywall, TV missing, and writing on the walls with permanent marker). This is unacceptable by any standards.

The fact is, we do not ask to sign a contract before seeing the apartment. Our deposits only consist of the same amount as the first months rent. If there is a maintenance issue in any apartment, it's usually rectified within 24hrs, most of the time sooner--same day service (and that's rare by caribbean standards). And we never bother anyone over usage of a/c or anything else...ever.
It's so interesting that you understand why i joined valuemd. Because it's my goal in life to attack Little Venice. Get real...how would you know why i joined and when i joined? Anyway, all I can do is express my honest experiences and opinions to help other students who may or may not be considering renting an apartment with you. I have lived at other places in Bonaire and always experienced a professional relationship with the landlords--all except at little venice, so forgive me for telling the truth about my experience...truth hurts. But i will give you the benefit of the doubt, maybe you actually got your act together.

I don't have a dog in this fight but the comments by A8tor and Littlevenice make me not want to ever rent from this place. And btw I didn't sign up to bash little venice.
