Alarm Clocks

I planned on using my cell phone as an alarm clock down there, as it has that function as one of its features. When I plug it in to charge over-night, is it possible for it to lose time, like was mentioned in the previous post, effecting its ability to be an alarm clock? Should I invest strictly in a battery operated alarm clock instead and just forget about using the cell phone altogether? I just don't want to spend money on something if I don't have to.

You don't need to worry about anything that plugs in with a AC->DC adaptor. These devices will turn 50/60Hz mains in to a continuous DC output and so will not affect the timing of your device (cell phone, laptop, etc.)

If your device can run on 220v 50hz (usually listed on the power brick as 110-220/240 50-60) then all you need is an adapter that changes the plug from american to grenadian.

If your device only runs on 110/120v 60hz, then you'll one of those converters that will stepup to 220v

Most (not all) laptops nowadays can run on both. Most cell phones too - just check the power brick and see what it says or google it online.

i used my cell phone, and did not have any problem with time getting screwed up. Also, at the hardware store, they have little alarm clocks that can run on a single AA battery that you can also use. It's better to buy one before you come down, b/c I'm quite sure they are MUCH cheaper here.

So then you have two clocks (its always nice to have a backup), your phone, and one running on an AA battery.

I know you pay customs on the laptop you bring, but do you also pay customs on things like external hard drives?

Usually the laptop is it. They don't ask and you don't offer for any other electronics.

If you don't declare the laptop, then they'll look through your stuff and find everything electronic and charge you for it, so just mention the laptop and you all should be fine.

What if I ship a suitcase by cargo - will they look through it to see what I have in there?
