Hey guys, I was looking through the suggested books to bring on a couple different sites, the biochemistry one I've seen sugested is BRS Biochemistry....The only version I've seen is the October 1998 edition...is this the one everyone is talking about? Were there other books you think might be better or is the decade old book still the preferred choice?

but the author is different from the 1998 version. Note that the author for the 1998 (3rd) version Dawn Marks is the wife of the author of the Biochem textbook.

Most people feel that Illustrated Reviews in Biochem (included in booklist) is the best review book for biochem.

Lippincott? Yes, it was a keeper - clear and understandable. Marks had too much detail and had cases like Al Martini the alcoholic and Ann O'rexia (oooh, can you guess what she suffered from?). Totally annoying imho.

is a laptop lock required in the dorm? Is it pretty safe to leave it there without a lock?

I brought one and used it in my dorm, path lab and library. I thought it was good to have in the dorms because the cleaning staff comes in when you're not there as well as maintenance staff to make repairs. In the library and path lab, I locked my laptop so I could walk away to use the restroom or stop by the campus store for a snack and still expect to find my laptop on the table when I come back. At least, the appearance of your laptop being locked should be enough of a deterrent for most thieves as it would take them time to steal it and increase the chance of he/she to be discovered. A good quality laptop lock isn't expensive and it's better to spend the small amount of money and have piece of mind rather than coming back to your room/apt/study area to discover that your laptop has been stolen.

Thanks a lot for your advice. I agree. Do you know where I can get one? Which one do you have and how much did it cost?
Thanks.

I've heard bad reviews about the Kensinton brand. Targus brands have better (but not foolproof) reviews.

If yuo want the BRS biochem then get the latest one that is available. It is green. However a little warning...it is full of mistakes in some places. I debated with my study group for a while on a question I knew I had the right answer to and the BRS told us the wrong answer.
