My advice for the laptop would be the smaller the better, beyond that I don't think it matters. People with both mac's and pc's seem to have no problems. I would advise getting a warranty if you're going to buy a new one, laptops seem to die frequently in Grenada for whatever reason.

Dell is fine. People rag on them for no reason.

I know tons of people with all different brands of computers that have failed - Macs, Toshibas, HPs, Sagers, etc. I worked tech support for a couple years during undergrad (at a university of 40,000 students).

So I'd love to hear your reasoning for staying away from them. If it's cause you hear about more problems with them it's because they have such a large market share (that about 75-80% of the class has a Dell). 1% of 100 machines having a problem is greater than 1% of 20.

expect computer problems

yes, i agree. You will inevitably have some type of computer problem while you are in GND. Whether it be a major problem or a minor problem, that will depend only on ur luck. Plugging into certain outlets directly without a surge protector have been a suggested reason for many of the failures but I dont think this has ever been proven. I had a dell and did run into problems. Dell's warranty allowed me to take advantage of their international dispatch program which generally takes about 2 weeks. However, luckily I had a roommate going back to the states and he brought me the part i needed.

Bottom Line: you need a laptop. I dont think any one particular brand will fare better than any other in GND. Expect problems. Just hope they are minor.

Get a surge protector for all important electronics.

Trust me on this. I've lived in Grenada most of my life and all of the stuff in our house e.g. refrigerators, are on one.

Even if you don't get a massive surge that will fry it, there are constant dips and spikes that can mess your stuff up.

and get a good protector. the one that i had was fried this past term. thank goodness it was the surge protector that was fried and not my laptop.

and on the dell, i just personally never had a good experience with dells, so i try to stay away from them from now on. if i have any extra cash, i would actually buy a macbook now

for anatomy wet lab, you can either wear a white coat (which you will get one on your white coat ceremony) or a pair of scrub.

as far as 1 or 2 pairs of scrub that is up to u. two is more convenient as you will always have a clean pair

allheart.com is a decent place to get cheap scrubs if they can ship them to you in time before you leave. You can also buy SGU scrubs at the bookstore in Grenada but they're a bit on the expensive side (I think 90EC, but not certain).
