nope foundations of medicine is a program in which u take premed classes for 1 term and if u maintain a certain academic standard you will be enrolled in the MD program. AEP is for people already accepted into the MD program but has weak points in their application. AEP is a way for the school to help monitor/smoothen your transition into medical school.
hope this clears things up

no. Foundations is an extra semester of premed-style classes that you take before entering the med program. It's sort of an audition for border-line students to prove they can handle things here, and a way for non-traditional students to get used to being in school again.

AED is in addition to the med program, and is more like extra help for those who need it - review sessions and the like. As far as I can tell, they're just like any other review sessions, but more basic and limited to AED students only.

So, from my -limited- understanding and searching through the forums they're all sorts of alternative pathways to and in SGU Med? Decel, MPH to MD, AEP, FOM... Aside from choice (Decel), the others I assume are by invitation only?

Well "decel", as in decelerating, is something that a student does once they're already in the medical program because they can't handle a full courseload for whatever reason. This only lasts for 1 term's-worth of material; if you decel in August then you take the remaining classes from your Aug term in the Spring. So when the rest of your classmates have gone on to the next term, you take the course(s) you didn't during the August term and then join rejoin the full-load students the following term. This is assuming you passed everything, of course.

Also, the AEP program is also a med program so those students are in the medical school; they simply need to take additional tutoring sessions. The MPH and FOM are legit routes into SGU if you make the grade.

Sorry if I confused you with the decel business. There must be a better way to say what I said

EDIT: Bah, just reread your post and...yeah you're right.

Also, after successful completion of the FOM program you are registered to the MD/AEP.

Fom

Hi!
Does anyone know how successful the FOM students are at making it into the med program? I know you have to maintain a 3.2 in the FOM to go on to medicine, but i have already been accepted directly into another med school so I don't know if I should take the risk with the FOM program. Anyone have any insight?
Thanks!

you can call your admissions advisor for specific questions. I called about FOM and they answer any questions you have and are very helpful. She said 95% of the pre-med students go on to the MD program (that's all pre-med not just FOM). She said FOM students do better on average in term 1 than students who enter directly.

you have to try not to get a 3.2., really... AEP is like counselling and tutoring. you automatically get it if youre fom or mcat under 25.
