how easy is this mph prog?
Hello,
i was conditionally excepted to the entering MPH/MD track for jan 2006. I want to know with whole hearted honesty from students and moderators..how easy is this prog...because my main goal is to be an MD, and i know i shouldnt be asking how "easy" something is in chasing my dream..but my dream is and was to be an MD not a MPH/MD, so i wanna know from students who may have gone through or heard of personal experiences regarding this prog. I was told by the school that 92 percent of the MPH class meet the 3.5 gpa requirment and move on to the MD prog the next semester. so now im thinking either these kids are really competitive or this masters is really easy and is another economical scheme by the school. i know st george is the best outside of u.s from what i hear, but ive been excepted to uag..GURANTEED..i will start pursuing my dream instead of entering a masters prog which i know nothing about and regardless of how easy the classes are in the master prog ITS NOT GURANTEED, if st george is right then 8 percent dont make it and i dont want to be part of the 8 percent for any reason. so does anyone have any suggestiions as to how easy this mph thing is, and is it worth, or in my case, not worth ditching UAG (which is guranteed and accredited in 50 stated) to go to St george provesionally with the chance of not making it to MD prog depending on difficulty of MPG prog. Thanx all, i know it was alot, but im losing sleep over this and much advise would be appreciated. |

Republic, it seems odd that someone who doesn't go to SGU posts so much on SGU, and not only that, but then goes and bashes various things about SGU. I mean, respect to AUC, ROSS, Saba, whatever, I have no problem with the other schools, but I think it's a bit ridiculous that you spend your time combing through our forum, looking for ways to bash us. Besides, as a person who is not only not a part of the MPH program, but not apart of the SCHOOL, why do you think you know anything about it?

there isnt a black and white cut off.
its usually for students that have a poor gpa or mcat or perhaps both and a shot to prove themselves and show to the board that they are capable of doing the work and stuff. yes its more money. but if you were accepted to other schools and have no interest in mph, i would advise not to do the mph at sgu.

honestly i think its for students who are on the line, and the schools know just how badly they want to attend school so they give this option out to not only accept students, but gain another semesters tuition from it.
but hey, if i get that md regardless at the end, wahts another semester....right? |

Jaywalk thanx for the response. so u think going to this prog which isnt guranteed is worth ditching UAG? what kind of classes are they, just ethical non-science classes? so the difficulty level in no way compares to MD basic sciences classes? its just humanity based classes regarding health systems? the numbers dont work out to me man, its weird, so every class that the school accepts for the MD prog they have to keep in mind or keep seats available for the possible students that are coming in from the previouse semester of the MPH prog that madde to the MD prog? how many students then are in these MPH/MD prog? and if its huge number and 92 percent pass then *** happens to the MD people that are applying they get shortlisted?
