There seems to be a lot of rumors and confusion about the AEP program, as well as a lot of outdated information floating around. Please find below the current information about the program and requirements:
Each term St. George’sUniversity accepts a group of promising students from an extremely competitive pool for entry into the Academic Enhancement Program (AEP). You have been accepted by the Board of Admissions for enrollment in this specially designed program. What is the Academic Enhancement Program? The Academic Enhancement Program is designed to assist students until they have completed their first and second term course-work. The mission of AEP is to assist the student with the development of skills related to time management, study methods, and test taking. These are all tools necessary for success in medical and veterinary school and beyond. Why have I been placed in AEP? Students are placed in the program for a variety of reasons such as your MCAT score, undergraduate GPA, an extended time gap between undergraduate and medical or veterinary school, or perhaps if English is your second language. With the assistance of the Academic Enhancement Program, the Board of Admissions believes you will be successful in your academic endeavors at SGU, so that you have opportunity to pursue your goal of becoming a physician or a veterinarian. What if I do not comply with AEP? Most students have a positive attitude towards AEP and view the program as a cornerstone in their success at SGU. However, there are some students who decide not take advantage of the resources provided by AEP. Failure to fully comply with the requirements of AEP will consequently result in notification to the Dean of Students. Please note that your admission to SGU is based upon the provision that you participate in the Academic Enhancement Program. A Final Word The faculty of the Department of Educational Services, the Board of Admissions, and the Dean of Students all encourage you to look upon your placement in the Academic Enhancement Program as a positive step towards success at SGU. In addition, the Department of Educational Services’ primary goal is to enhance the educational experience for the students of SGU. We offer resources related to study skills, learning style assessments, test taking skills, medical communication, and English as a second language. Each term we adjust the requirements. The Fall 2005 AEP requirements are as follows:
Highly recommended: Meet with your Academic Advisor at least twice during the term. IF YOU HAVE ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS ABOUT THE PROGRAM, PLEASE EMAIL AMCPHAIL@SGU.EDU SO A FACULTY MEMBER CAN ASSIST YOU. |
