Is there a Walmart type store in Grenada?
Is there anything in Grenada that resembles a Walmart.
I want to buy pillows, blankets and what not from Grenada because I'm afraid it will take up too much room in my luggage. Any type of store that carries those types of things at a reasonable price? Also is there any stores on campus, like campus book store or campus snack shop/grocery store. If so what type of stuff do they carry. |

Walnot
No walmart, no target, nothing like that. I don’t live there, but I’ve been there. Specifics as to where you can buy linens would have to be given by someone else. I can tell you that there are no all-in-one type stores or anything remotely similar to that.

sheets
There was a store in the mall called Home Comfort that sells all that stuff. Pillows, blankets, dishes, plates, etc. It is not cheap and the items are not good quality. I would compare it to going to a dollar store to buy your sheets ( you know the cheapest of the cheap quality), except it costs 50 dollars for a sheet set at Home Comfort. Think three tiers of quality below Wal Mart. The quality of things in the US is much better.
To summarize: yes you can buy anything you need to set up a household ( there are 100,000 Grenadians living there so there has to be commerce) but you are better off bringing it down yourself. |

buying
there are stores in grenada. as someone else mentioned, there's a home store in the mall in grand anse. also, st. george's (downtown) has many stores where you can purchase linens, blankets, pillows, pots, pans, anything and everything probably half the value of the mall prices. however, nothing there is name brand. pillow at the mall runs for about 30-40 ec (11-15 USD). pillow downtown will cost you 10-12 ec (3-5 USD).
another option you have, if you don't mind, is that many returning students (such as myself) will be selling stuff they've accumulated and need to get rid of. it may be second hand, but it'll be a lot cheaper than the stores. during orientation week and throughout the term, you'll find yourself reading for sale signs. also, the mailroom has an afternoon where they sell all sorts of things (from stationary to pots and pans to baskets) at somewhat reasonable price (in terms of the costs there). binnie |
