Thread: transferring

i was not sure if this was the correct place to post this question but...

1) i know it is still early but being a first termer and in the process of wanting to transferring (two reasons really - one being that i want a more varied selection in residency placements ), what is the timeline that i should be following? when should i be asking for recs? when should i be getting applications and turning them in?

any information would be greatly appreicated!

Wow. You really need to run up to Grand Anse and some a bowl. Bro, you haven't even started classes and you have notions of transferring. Worrying about these things will make you anal and no one really wants to be anal.

If you would like to transfer to a US medical school for your third year, you should start applying January of your second year. I'm pretty sure it is around that time transfer applications are available at the medical schools.

Being an August start you have a few options. Apply during your first year to schools that havea similar academic program as SGU for M2 placement or the more likely apply after taking your step 1 which is the time most schools will accept transfer. THe problem with the latter is that you will lose some time as mos transfer spots applicaiton are due in APril and you will still be in Vinnies at that time.

Third and most important. Transfer should be the last thing on your mind. Classes are hard and its a ton of work so dont get ahead of yourself.

when you transfer, what do they ask for?
MCATS, undergrad transcript, med school transcript, etc...
or just med school stuff?

some school will still ask for mcat and undergrad grades while some wont, ask each school.

Some not only want LORs from the med school ur attending, but also from the undergraduate school u attended!

Is it even chronologically possible to transfer as an August matriculant given most of us won't even have our board scores until mid august? Has anyone done so in the past being in the August class? I'm in the August class, but I'm wondering if it's even worth it.
