I was accepted for decided to defer to Jan 06. I just sent in my deposit. Seems a bit overwhelming after the initial excitment from this side of the pond reading all of these posts. I just feel very fortunate to have even found this forum. It definatly offers real time information that cannot be expressed in a brochure.

I was hoping this thread could serve as a data pool of information regarding all steps and related experiences from acceptance letter to first day of classes and every possible activity/issue/situation inbetween. (Transition).

Can someone provide a high level somewhat general prioritized sequential check list of what's done during transitin to GND. I am sure everybody's transition experience will have to follow some general steps with specific requiements attached to each step.

It may be good idea to list current situations and maybe realted ones can brainstorm or recieve feedback and lessons learned from people currently enrolled.

My Situation
I recently got engaged and my future wife will be coming with me. We are leasing an apartment and have loads of stuff. I assume the best thing is to put it into storage for the time spent in GND. I currently work in the corporate world so I must plan my last day and save (for transitional expenses). Is there a average dollar amount it cost a typical student to transition to GND. We opted for True Blue Married Kitchenette for first term. Is this a good choice? I dont want to be isolated from other fellow classmates nor do I want my girlfriend to be isolated from other significant others. Any experience with this? I would like to be intimatly networked with people in my class. When should I consider buying plan tickets. Can we ship thing (via amerijet) ahead of time. If so to where? Is there a way to get in touch and speak with other accepted people and learn about their concerns (it might help better define mine). Is there an offical forum for accepted students. Is there a big brother/sister program where you can ask questions about classes, books, scribes, professors environment, etc. As you can see there are more questions than answers with me. But for now I think I have asked enough.

you cannot defer. you have to askt hem to reevaluate the applcation for the term you want.

What I meant was I orginally applied for 2006 but they told me I was waitlisted for Aug 2005 which didnt matter b/c I could not start until 2006

Well..... that's a tall order of all the things you need to do. It's good you're on campus for the first stint..... I enjoyed that then moved off.....I ended up liking the privacy off campus. Well for start up..... just some ideas. Bring your favourite music...and get some good speakers for your computer. Your phone service might take a while to get set up. Pick up some stationary...like highlighters pens etc before you get down there.... it's cheaper and more available back home. It's all pretty organized for you. You'll have all these orientations which are fun...and a boat trip too hopefully. Then when classes start...... you'll just be studying away.

Thanks for the info. I have Klipsch 5.1 surround. They and should provide nice entertainment from studying.
