DID MY COLLEGE IN ENGLISH, BUT STILL HAVE TO PASS TOEFL????

Hi guys! I recently applied to SGU and got a letter stating that I have to pass the TOEFL , because I come from a French province in Canada. Even though I did my entire 2 year studies in AN ENGLISH COLLEGE. Is that normal, any student here in my shoes ???

ANY INSIDES WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED !

Well, SGU is a multi-national university attended by some students whose first language is not English, so while I personally didn't take the TOEFL, I am sure it is not that uncommon...

Just a guess, but perhaps there was a concern with the MCAT verbal score?

hi

hi emt036!

thanks for the reply! I applied to 3 rd year premed, because I do not have a bachlor degree but 105 undergraduate credits. I did half of my undergraduate studies in an ENGLISH COLLEGE and the other half at A FRENCH UNIVERSITY. I am fluent in both, and I think my autobiography proves my english is definitely not rusty!

ANYWAYS, I AM NOT SCARE OF THE TOEFL OR THE 130 BUCKS, BUT IT'S SUCH A WASTE OF TIME

SOME MORE INSIDES WOULD BE REALLY HELPFULL !

Seems fine to me, but as I've said before, I don't sit on the admissions board :-)

And get used to taking stupid, expensive (Step IICS is $1200, I think) exams for the rest of your career. :-(

You don't always have to accept what you're told. I was in the same boat as you but I didn't write TOEFL. That was some **. I challenged it. I mean, I speak english fluently, I took the damn MCATs and I wrote an autobiography, did an interview. How the hell did I do all of that if I didn't have the command of english? All you have to tell them is that you're bi-lingual. doesn't matter which one is your first language. That is just a misnomer. There are some Americans who spkeak english but cannot read or write english yet claim english is their first language. **!

for instance, the word is insight, not insides...

TOEFL won't be hard for you though. You just have to be careful on word usage.

Hey, common now, I think that was just a typo, frequently occurs if you are typing while enraged. My friend, I would definitely contest it before just taking the test. I mean its a really easy test but a real waste of time. I was asked to take the test but never took it, being multilingual can be quite a pain, why dont you call and try to talk to someone about it at bayshore, I am sure that someone will be able to help you with this. And worst possible scenario, they dont back down, then you take the test which I am sure you will do fine in, but I doubt that you will be required to take the test.
