neurosurg
I was doing a rotation with a guy who was interviewing for neurosurgery. He had great scores and had gone through like 11 neurosurg interviews. I am sure he matched somewhere.

neurosurg
Well....if it's the same fellow Nimitt.... ya I remember taking the train with him.... I don't know how many Neurosurg's interviews he had...but a bunch..but that was backed up by a lot of general surgery....so maybe he ended up going that way...I'll look back at the list...

Yeah Geoff that was the same guy we took the train with! He only had a few General surg 1 or 2 interviews other than the 11 for neuro surg according to him.
Congrats on your residency!

question: at some point in the future will there be some sort of meeting or pamphlet or...instructions written on the back of a bar napkin or something that tells us what we are supposed to do after we leave vinnie's? for example, i heard that you can do a rotation at any hospital, but if it's not in the SGU 'system', then you have to take care of all the arrangements yourself, instead of the school helping out or whatever.
basically all the stuff for rotations and all the stuff for residency--will there be some sort of info session about that?

help after vinnies
After you leave vinnies you will feel lost. During your rotations individual hospitals are responsible to give you info on rotations etc. As far as residency issues are concerned I would suggest that you take that responsibility on yourself and do your homework. This way you know the info and its a realiable source: you! There are numerous websites to help with residency and there are books like Getting into a Residency by Dr. Iserson. This forum is another good source along with grads like Steph.
The school holds a residency fair but it was the most worthless thing in the world in my opinion. Also I would also suggest when the time comes closer not now to read up on scramble incase you have to. The school website lists things you need to have to scramble but there are some tips students can give to help. If you wish to do an outside rotation then you are responsible to contact the hospital and find out what paperwork the hospital needs from the school and then make sure they get it. The best advice I can give you is take the responsibility yourself and double check everything that way there are less mistakes and there are no rumors to confirm!

Even better advice is to hound the graduating 4th years and get a handle on their experiences with the match. Where I did my rotations the 4th years held a couple of qa sessions and gave us some great advice on how to proceed. My adivce to next years class.. apply EVERYWHERE and always have a backup plan. I saw lots of people get caught with their pants down and having to scramble into undesirable spots after not matching into a competetive specialty or just applying to a handful of programs.
