I am **** (from Murfreesboro, TN) and will be starting as a First Year in Aug. 05. My father, age 67, and I will be coming down to the island Sunday, May 15 through Friday the 20th. We are staying on the Grand Anse beach, and I would love any ideas on fun stuff to see or do while we are down there. Also I will be getting a tour of campus but would love to see where the students hang out. We both love the beach and water stuff. My dad cant get real physical at his age, so hiking and biking are prolly out. Also if anyone needs anything small that you have to buy stateside, I would be glad to bring it down.

If your staying on Grand Anse, you'll have access to one of the nicest beaches on the island. As far as watersports, I'll be scuba diving this weekend. Most dives are done as drift dives, so they really aren't to strenous, but I don't know if that's an option with your father. If not, there is always snorkelling. :-)

As far as students hanging out, mostly the library :-) I am not aware of any big parties this weekend. (One of the terms just finished finals last weekend, so the party was then.) But keep your eyes open for posters on campus. Otherwise there are a few local bars that I am sure you could find some students at...

If you can change your reservation, I highly recommend the True Blue Resort. If you are renting a car, tour the island and visit the waterfalls. If you are not use the cambus buses for free tours of the areas surrounding the school, and the red bus to take you to St. George for $1.50 EC. You don't need to get money exchanged, everyone takes American, unless you want to. Just divide EC price by 2.7 to get the USD. Spend some time touring Grande Anse (~30-40 min on foot) and take some time in St. Georges. Look at campus flyers posted everywhere for any associations, religious or otherwise, that might be meeting while you are there. The Labs are a must see. Nothing else on campus is of much excitment, but the labs are a selling point. Bay Shore can set up a guided tour for you...don't expect a whole lot of perfessionalism here. A secretary led ours...it was pretty weak...except for the labs. Have fun...food at the True Blue is good. Everything at Bananas kinda tasted like fish to me ( I had ribs and frys).

i would suggest exchange money to EC. some places will rip you off if you pay in US. they are just too lazy to do the conversion and just makes a random reasonable number; unless u carry a calculator...have fun converting it urself in ur head...
