It sounds like Mr. Biochem needs to do a little deep thinking and maybe put a few things together. I wonder if he's heard of entropy? Science as religion-throw away all logic because you don't like where it leads.

Personally, I am quite happy to where it leads. Less fanatics running around killing people over which direction quarks spin than those holding on to the my religion is better than yours philosophy.

the only Crusades I believe in are those to find cures to diseases....although the guys running around wearing pink, yellow, and green plastic wrist bands scare me...

Please tell me where the logic and facts of science lead. I'm talking about the big picture. I expect your reply to be accurate, well researched, and cogent. Stephen Hawking is a good place to start.

Have you read any history of the crusades? I recommend Thomas F. Madden. A crusade is taken to regain that which was lost. There can then be no crusade to discover a cure for a disease. Your analogy was inaccurate but I understand what you are saying.

In reply, I would submit to you that more people have been killed by those with no belief in absolute truth than by those who ascribe to a belief in a higher power. If you have the time, check your history.

I'm sorry, last I checked disease killed more people than all conflicts, wars, or crusades put together.

Heck TB alone has probably killed more people alone than all the wars put together.

Oh, and just for clarification, Crusade has two meanings according to Merriam-Webster. I was referring to definition number 2)a remedial enterprise undertaken with zeal and enthusiasm when I was speaking of a crusade against disease. A crusade against TB, polio, Malaria, and small pox is just as correct as the definition and history you were trying to educate me on.

And no, you don't have to start with Hawkings. Or at least that's what the faculty at Berkeley, Harvard, and Oxford would have me think. He's just one person in along cast of players. But then again, no one ever controls what I think...I dare to think my own thoughts and define my own reality.

If we're not here to further our DNA, then why are we here?

As far as investigating where the facts and logic of science lead, use as many references as you like. Please make sure that they are scientifically accurate. Hawking is known for the incisiveness of his intellect as well as for drawing scientifically elegant, accurate conclusions. He is a good place to start. Incidentally, you went to Berkeley, Harvard, and Oxford? Wow!

You are the one who used crusade in the context of "fanatics running around killing people", and then tied it into finding cures for diseases. If you are going to mix definitions, please warn me ahead of time so I know which one you'd like me to apply.

I can only educate you on history if you are willing to apply yourself. First test on Monday .

What do you do when events and people impose on reality as you define it? I wish I had the power to define my own reality! "I'm not having this discussion..."

take it easy,
