I wanna know who the Right to Life Zealot is! I wanna express my right to get in their face for the rest of term!

I can't believe they wrote a threat letter to Prof for teaching about Oral Contraceptives! The fact that someone thinks "their religious opinion" is more important than medical education is ridiculous at this stage in the game.

religion

i have no problem with any of the religions or beliefs out there. good fences make good neighbors. i only have a problem when someones elses dogma is forced upon me. it is ridiculous for an individual or group to threaten one of our profs if the subject matter is not compatible with their beliefs. if you dont want to hear it then you are free to leave. your real disservice may appear when a patient arrives and needs your unbiased opinion. will you give sub-optimal help because they dont follow your beliefs?

This brings up an interesting debate. Check out this thread. It seems Australia is dealing with a similar conflict. The imported physicians and religious drug store people are being contraception very difficult for young people as a result of the religious and moral opinions and in my opinion creating a worse situation by allowing for unwanted pregnancies and STD's.

so what does the CSA have to do with any of this?

How about the CSA member in class who was aghast when the Visting Psychiatrist mentioned a psych patient who thought he was Jesus Christ? The patient would apparently stand against the wall with his arms spalyed as though he were against a cross.

What was the source of her exclamation? The fact that the physician said "Jesus."

I can't imagine the lives people must be living before they come to medical school. It's like we have a bunch of 4 year olds running around. I know of several female students that refuse to ask about sexual histories and even avert their eyes if a male OR female patient has a disease where the genitalia must be inspected. Then again, what about the student that asks every female patient about her husband, when not a single female patient we have encountered in the hospital has been married despite having mutiple children. The thought of children out of wedlock still won't sink in with this individual....and he claims to be one of our "best students". Which world do these students come from?

Well....anyways...that was my rant for the day!

Peace out!

okee

mom has spoken.

my comments are not directed towards any faith just towards those who condemn others for their beliefs. no place for fanatics in a private institution.

Understood.

Sorry if I offended. Just wish people were a bit more exposed or at least tolerant and understanding of other cultures....especially when they live in one.

fanatic!

I would like to believe that there are places for fanatics in every private institution. You can poke them with a stick and watch them rant...very entertaining.

Narrow-minded people exist in all walks of life. Some are not worth engaging, but some are capable of expanding their outlook. Try cutting one out from the herd and speaking to them like a thinking person. Every once in a while, I get pleasantly surprised. At the very least, you'll get some insight into how others see the world.

I'm a Christian, so I believe in absolute truth. I don't, however, think that my personal opinions carry any weight outside of my own head. The trouble that many people have is in separating personal conviction from truth. Most of the true zealots that I know, regardless of cause that they champion, are relatively new to their beliefs. Their zeal often gets tempered over with seasoning over time. I saw this a lot with new nursing grads when I worked as an RN in a hospital. E.g. "This was how I was taught to do this, therefore it is the only way it can be done properly."

peace,

mlfone

meaning of life?

" The Chad" was saying in Biochem the other day that we are only here to further our DNA. I don't recall all the properties of purines, pyrimidines, deoxyribose and phosphates. But, I'm thinking that they must be pretty smart. Going to all that trouble to make us.................
