the reason why sgu is having this new "elective"...my guess is bc they put too many students in jamaica hosp and not everyone can fit in the core w/o having someone take a 6 wks block off...aka "elective time"

actually most of the centers have a rotation of choice built in...jamaica was one of the few that didn't, probably just standarding with the other centers...at joes you automatically get family as a 6th core....you could do that or something that you have done a core in (ie IM subspecialties, ped subspecialities, etc) or something that doesn't require a core- rads, anesthesia, etc...
also, for CS , EM or family are better prep for CS than IM, the rooms in family and the encounters in fam and EM are more like CS than IM- but really- 4 days with FA is all you need.
