Just last week I saw him award Doctor of Medicine diplomas to hundreds of people. It doesn't get any cooler than that.

He also said that SGU was founded by someone who looked a lot like him, only younger and with more hair. I rather enjoy the fact that he doesn't take himself too seriously.

Today we're waiting for our 7 am lecture. FD walks in, red eyes dressed in the dark hunter green attending scrubs. He was on call the night before and has just woken up. We're waiting for the resident giving the lecture when a resident sticks his head in and tells us the lecture is canceled. The hospital is implementing a new electronic ordering system (CPOE) and they are having their training right now.

With this new found time (first cases we had didn't start until 8) Specs and myself go to the cafeteria to get what they sell as "coffee." (I use this term very loosely) We sit down with two of the students on IM. Conversation goes something like this:

Specs: I'm hoping that on Thursday we just have our evals with the clerkship director and don't have to stay all day so I can study
Me: Don't you remember before our presentations last week FD asked the clerkship director if he had to come in and round on that day? He said we just had to come in for the eval and then we're done
IM #1: He asked the clerkship director that? You can't do that. There's a skill involved in getting out of work and it requires ...
Me: ...some subtly?
IM #1: Exactly. FD is not about subtly. Do you know what he did yesterday?
Me: What?
IM #1: So I'm on call with him yesterday and at one point he comes up to me and asks if I think if he could get away with leaving the hospital for a soccer game. He says it wasn't that far away, about 10 minutes away. I told him I didn't know but I'm pretty sure he took off. A trauma was called overhead about 90 minutes later, no idea if he showed up for that or not
Me: Wow
IM #1: Skipping out on IM call where they never bother us is one thing. Skipping out on trauma surgery call requires a serious ball sack
Me: (...resists urge to point out that it could just be sheer stupidity...)
IM #1: For his ambulatory care they assigned him to Dr. BigWig because he's had professionalism problems in the past
Me: (to self) (...no feces...)

I have a $20 + brownie bet with one of my fellow students that she will match into her uber-competitive specialty of choice and he will not. It's days like this where I feel like it is already $20 in the bank and a brownie in the tummy.

Just read the "Safety in GND" thread for the first time.

I had to go down stairs for popcorn/1L diet coke half way through
