one has control over the guns...the snake not so much....i've had a pretty big dog die from a cottonmouth's bites, so i could imagine it could easily kill a little kid...(and i did say i would have run over the thing with the car...surer way of killing the snake).

and they're shotguns, not saturday night specials...while cityfolk don't have very legitimate purposes for one, in the country its a different story (though hunting deer or duck is a better use vs shootin' a snake).

The shotguns in the pantry are not loaded, although the shells are also in the pantry.

One of the loaded guns is a .22 revolver that is kept on top and at the back of one of the bookshelves. The other loaded gun is kept in the bedroom.

I'm not one to randomly kill reptiles, but a venomous snake with pets and kids abound is hazardous. It was clear my father, although owning over a dozen guns, wasn't going to do it if he could get me to do the dirty work.

My mother tells me that my father occasionally will shoot gophers who try to eat plants in his garden, although he uses one of the .22s for that. Probably less collateral plant damage.

Yes, he's like 100x awesomer, though apparently not a fantastic shot (probably still better than me anyway).

For the love of all that is holy, do not use a shotgun to shoot either of these. You'll only hurt the deer and will be picking shot out of the duck for the next week.

Unless, of course, you are using...this! Season Shot - Ammo with flavor. (still don't use it for the deer).

I have nothing to back this up, but I feel like if you're raised in a household with guns that are used properly/responsibly then the chances of you blowing something away are decreased. Most people who are raised around guns view them very differently than those who are not.

Some things never change, no matter how old you are. When I was a kid my mother bought me a toy vacuum and toy lawn mower. I now have a strange affinity for vacuum cleaners and mow the lawn.

Do people generally eat gophers? Found some recipes on Google but still.

The snake looked something like this after I shot it:

Everybody knows that for Duck Hunt you use one of these:

Joking aside, you can use a shotgun for duck hunting as long as you use non-toxic shells.

me being from a conservative, gun-toting area of Canada, I'm proud of you Foo!!!

I used to be a pretty mean shot with that duck hunt gun
