i was wondering if anyone knew how important are step 1 scores for fellowships?

Now thats a good question. I would like to know the answer to that and I will add Step 2 and 3 scores?

I know research helps as does good scores on your specialties yearly exams and as always good rec letters. One more thing a phone call from the chair of your department on your behalf to the program where he did his fellowship.

not that important but for more competitive things, anything that makes you look mighty helps.
