how much stuff is everyone bringing? I have 3 pieces of luggage and a carry on and that seems a bit too much. I am not shipping anything though. is that reasonable enough?

510 points 3 pieces of luggage? i thought u were only allowed 2 suitcases per person and like 2 handbags or something...did they raise it to 3 suitcases?
American allows 2 pieces of checked-in luggage (70 lbs each). And even that seems debatable. Some ppl on here have been allowed only 1 checked-in luggage item of 70 lbs. I think the carry-on bag can be 40 lbs.
Other airlines may have different luggage requirements. ATA allows 2 bags (50 lbs each), and 1 carry on bag that can be up to 40 lbs.
Not sure what Air Jamaica and the others allow you to bring.

american airlines- allows you one checked bag for ur flight from pr to grenada. this is really important bc they will leave ur bag in puerto rico and it will get on a flight at a later time. and for american you are allowed one carry on plus a purse. the plane is very tight so they are strict in puerto rico. airjamaica lets u take 2 bags 70 lbs each, if they are a lil heavy or look too big they may not put them on the plane the first time it may have to wait for a later flight depending on how much luggage everyone has.. just be prepared sometimes ur bags dont get to grenada with you.
i took american on the way down there my first term and shipped mostly everything id say 60 percent of the people on my flight got all there luggage when we landed.
on American Airlines i'm allowed 2 checked bags at 70 lbs per bag (ive heard on this site that that is combined weight for the two, but the website says 70 per bag) and a carryon that can weigh no more than 40 lbs. So thats 3 pieces all together (and a small handbag/laptop case).

I figured it would be from Puerto Rico to Grenada that we would encounter the problems with bags. Guess Ill have to see if I can fit everything into one checked bag and one carryon! This is going to be "tight" situation!

510 points If you go to the AA website it clearly says you can take two check in bags, each @ 70 lbs. I have called AA several times and have been told that. I have also traveled with American every single time and have never had a problem with this and trust me I have been back and forth quite a bit. The "risk" of this is that sometimes you might not get all your bags the same night. I've always gotten all my bags but that's more of an exception rather than the rule.
Though the carry-on is supposed to be 40 lbs they have never checked mine. HINT HINT: place all heavy books in your carry-on. This probably does not apply as much to 1st termers since you'll get your books in Grenada.
The trouble comes when coming back to the US because you can only bring one bag back but that's what storage is for!!!
theres posts about this all over the sgu members center. when u book with regina she tells u the same thing. i guess uve just gotten lucky with bringing extra baggage. the american airlines people told my roommates and friends the same thing but then u get there and the shuttle cant possibly fit it all.. good luck but id try to get everything down to 2 bags and one carryon with a smaller bag or whatever.
510 points well, staying down at SGU i dont think i could possibly bring just one suitcase...i definetly think i need two suitcases and 1 handbag. I guess when we are booking our flights i am gonna try to get one that allows 2 suitcases and doesnt give us a problem when we get to grenada!![]()
Most airlines allow you to bring an additional suitcase, but you must pay and "excess baggage" fee. Depending on where you're coming from, its sometimes cheaper to bring an extra suitcase instead of paying the FEES and DUTIES in shipping something.
For instance, from Canada, BWI Airlines charges only $154 for bringing an extra suitcase.
Not too shabby...
