    Future of NRMP?

What needs to happen for the NRMP to increase positions for any program?

Is this a political issue? Do you think the gov't believes opening new US schools in response to the projected decline in PCPs is going to help increase the positions available in the future?

the current government i.e. O, thinks that mid level providers i.e. nurse practitioners, CRNAs, and PA's are the answer to the pbysician shortage. He believes that they're just as good in many ways as physicians and will fill the need for PCPs or anyother physician shortages very nicely.

To increase # of residency spots Medicare needs more money to pay for the increase in residencies. Since, medicare is on the verge bankruptcy then it's very unlikely that a significant increase in residency spots will happen any time soon. The answer to that is to train more mid level providers and allow them more independent practice and more power.

Then the counter-question is how will this affect me matching in 2017.

Expanding LCME enrollment, virtually static number of residencies, and a serious disincentive to expanding primary care residencies which historically are the easiest for SGU grads to get? It isn't a good thing.

People who have the means need to be willing to contribute to society. In other words, people like MR, candidate for president, would have to pay more than 13% (his current rate) in taxes in order for social programs, such as Medicare, to thrive. Since we live in a time and a place where "I've got mine, screw everyone else!" is not just a slogan used with impunity, but a tenet that has become a cornerstone of a warped and bizarre "value" system, I doubt Medicare will be able to expand the training spots any time soon.
