Depends on your friend list. If all your friends have Digi, get Digi. If all your friends have Lime get Lime. I personally prefer Digi, since they seem to be more organized compared to Lime.

What kind of phones are available from Digi/Lime? and how much do they usually cost?

They have those cheap burner phones, where it's like $10-$15 bucks. You could also unlock your current phone, and just get sim card. The cheap burner phones are pretty useful, since a lot of people tend to lose phones at beach, the docks, carnival, and so on.

Is that what most people end up using? Like those old *** flip phones, no camera's, etc?

Pretty much, or they unlock a phone at home. You choose. I use my iPhone so I have continual access to free texting and calling, when I'm lucky and connect to the school wifi.
