Thread: Laptop too large?

I have a 17" laptop that I will be bringing with me in August. At home, it's essentially a desktop replacement. I can see myself bringing it to class if I need to, but my question is are there sufficient amount of outlets (if at all) and/or space on the desks for a laptop that large? At my university here the majority of the time the "desks" that are a part of the chairs are far too small to fit a laptop like that on it. I will also have an iPad so I can use that in lecture - should I stick with that?

Should be fine. My friend has a 17" laptop and he gets on just fine.

You could always buy a extra battery, and swap it in. That's pretty common, and a lot of laptop bags have compartments for that. Though the weight could be a problem I would imagine.

Great to know that there are others in the same boat! Obviously I'll have to see what's the best for me when I get there but yeah to know that it's an option is reassuring.

Yeah it's pretty heavy as is, and the battery craps out after like 1 hour of solid use. I'd have to get at least 5 to last me the day :P

All seats in the two main lecture halls have outlets.

@thatvietguy. This might be a bit too late for you but others that find this thread: bring a copy of the purchase receipt for your latptop/tablet, as you will have to pay a luxury tax at the airport to bring in those items to Grenada. Try to have the exact amount, they dont keep change

How much is this tax and does this happen every time you fly in- as in don't bring your computer back with you on break?

Tax depends on what you tell them at customs (HINT: LOWBALL THEM)

They give you a receipt and you can show it every time you come back to the island.

Besides your computer, do they tax other things like phones or music players?
